In the wake of King Charles' battle with cancer, Kate Middleton and Prince William have taken on more responsibility and authority, as they gear up for their future roles. William and Kate's eventual ascension to the throne will mean immediate promotion for several royal family members, while others will have to retire into the background. However, the question of whether the future Queen consort’s family members will receive any royal titles remains uncertain. While her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, will not be given new titles officially, Kate's sister, Pippa Middleton, might receive one.

According to Tyla, Middleton, as the Queen consort, is likely to promote her sister Pippa to the position of her official ‘Lady in Waiting.’ The 41-year-old, who is married to billionaire businessman James Matthews, does not hold an official aristocratic position in the monarchy despite her husband having a Scottish feudal title. However, Middleton, as Queen, may bestow her younger sister with the honor of keeping her close. Typically, the position is held by a woman of the royal court or of a higher rank. A Lady in Waiting is considered a close friend or secretary of the Queen, but not a mistress or servant. The position has been in the family since the Middle Ages, the 9th century, and has remained a relevant one. Pippa could be the one holding the position, given that she is one of the closest people to Kate today. Queen Camilla also has two Ladies in Waiting who work behind the scenes, not making royal appearances.

As per People magazine, the Middletons are not an aristocratic family, nor do they hold any royal titles. Therefore, it is unlikely that they would be promoted to a new role in the family despite already being part of the royal inner circle. However, there are still chances that Kate’s mother, Carole, may become one of her official ‘companions.’

The Middletons have remained a crucial part of the royal family ever since Kate's wedding to William. Carole, in particular, is adored by the Wales children, and Princess Charlotte is known to be very close to her aunt, Pippa. Carole was also seen cozying up with the King and William at Royal Ascot this year, having hearty conversations. Experts have further opined that William deeply cherishes spending time with the Middletons, for their traditional lives are far different from what the Prince had grown up in. This is evidenced by the Prince spending Easter this year with them. William and Kate have also allegedly considered sending their children to a co-ed boarding school just like Middleton and her two siblings, particularly liking the idea of keeping them close to home after the Princess's cancer diagnosis last year.
