Forget Meghan's Netflix Comeback — Queen Camilla Nearly Lands Role in 'Only Murders in the Building'
The show’s executive producer John Hoffman said, “We almost got [Camilla], know it’s insane, but yes, there was a moment."
While the world was busy focusing on Meghan Markle's return to the small screen, Queen Camilla almost landed a role in the hit comedy series Only Murders in the Building.
For the unversed, the Duchess of Sussex is reportedly in early talks for a role in the third season of Guy Ritchie’s Netflix series The Gentlemen. This could be a huge opportunity for Markle, given that she, Prince Harry, and their kids are moving back to the UK and the show is set and filmed there.
However, nothing has been confirmed yet. While Markle’s Hollywood future is back in the spotlight, royal fans almost got to see another royal woman on screen. Camilla, according to the show’s executive producer and showrunner John Hoffman, nearly landed a cameo in Only Murders in the Building.
In a conversation with Vulture, Hoffman revealed that the production had actually come close to securing Camilla for a cameo. “We almost got [Camilla], know it’s insane, but yes, there was a moment," he shared. Hoffman added that he was elated to learn there might be a chance of the Queen joining the show, and admitted he was shocked when he found out Camilla might actually be available for the role. “I was like, ‘Wait, what? Is that real?’” However, the idea eventually fell through because of logistical issues.
The executive producer explained that strict UK union rules limit productions to 10-hour filming days, meaning getting Camilla onto the set would have required additional planning around an already tight schedule. He added that the situation was “going to be a whole thing,” and the production eventually decided to scrap the royal cameo.
The sixth season of the Emmy-winning series is set largely in London and has a star-studded line-up of British actors, including David Tennant, Geri Halliwell, Nicola Coughlan, Richard Ayoade, and Jamie Demetriou. While Camilla may not appear in Only Murders in the Building yet, she has crossed paths with one of the show’s biggest stars. In December 2025, she visited the set of Rivals, where she met Tennant and other members of the cast.
PEOPLE shared that Camilla reportedly told the Rivals cast that she had binge-watched the first season while recovering from pneumonia and “felt much better afterwards.” The series was particularly meaningful to her because it was based on the novel by her late friend Dame Jilly Cooper. Sharing her profound sadness over her dear friend's passing, the Queen told the cast, “It’s so sad that she’s not here. She should be. I am so excited to be here. She would have loved it.”
