Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s UK Move Was ‘Taken as a Family’ — and It’s About Their Kids
A lot of speculation has followed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's decision to return to the UK, but sources revealed a different reality.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will soon come back to the UK in the coming days. As a war veteran, it won’t be the Duke of Sussex’s first return to his home country after a period of tension and stress. However, when the couple lands in the UK, it will be a different sort of homecoming. Two children in tow, ties with King Charles now on the mend, and their own house to go to, the family of four will certainly have a different experience coming to the UK this time than they did last month.
Harry has often spoken about showing his homeland to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. While he had the opportunity to do so in July, their extended stay in the UK and the kids’ enrollment in British schools could mean that, in some way, the two young royals will get to experience early childhood as their father did. For his part, the Duke had certainly missed the land of fish and chips. “Harry never really stopped missing home. He’s missed that sense of connection and belonging. Britain is still home in many ways,” a source close to the Sussexes told PEOPLE.
While the prince wanted to return to the UK, earlier reports suggested that Markle didn’t want to. However, another source mentioned that the decision to cross the pond was “taken as a family”. Archie and Lilibet will certainly get to experience a different culture and explore their British roots. “Meghan feels very fortunate that they’re able to give Archie and Lilibet the opportunity to experience both worlds,” a Montecito insider said.
Alongside reuniting with Charles, Harry and Markle visited Princess Diana’s grave at Althorp with Archie and Lilibet. It was possibly the siblings’ first time seeing their late grandmother’s final resting place. The Duke’s emotional memories of the UK could also have been the motivation behind the move. “He wants them to understand the world he grew up in and where their family comes from,” a source added.
Charles was reportedly informed of the shocking move last weekend, a few days before the news was announced to the world. It was initially speculated that Prince William and Kate Middleton were blindsided. But that may not have been the case. “King Charles was told of the move on Sunday,” the BBC had reported at the time the story broke, before adding, “The Prince and Princess of Wales have also been informed of their plans.”
While it is believed that the Sussexes will likely stay in the Cotswolds or Northamptonshire, their accommodation details have not yet been confirmed. The actual date of their arrival is under wraps. But they are expected to travel soon, considering UK school terms start early next month.
