Meghan Markle’s Acting Comeback Could Take an Unexpected Turn — and It’s Not ‘The Gentlemen’
Meghan Markle might reopen the doors to her acting career as she is reportedly receiving multiple offers.
When Meghan Markle left her acting career in 2018 to marry into the royal family, she might not have intended to ever return to the screen. However, the Sussexes’ fallout with the royal family and their subsequent move to the US opened that door once again. She made her foray into reality TV with her lifestyle show, is set to play herself in the film Close Personal Friends, and now is reportedly in talks for a part in The Gentlemen season 3. While there is a lot of push and pull over whether Markle will actually join the Guy Ritchie series, one royal expert has revealed that the former actress has begun receiving multiple acting offers.
Royal expert Bronte Coy told Sky News that while Markle is still in talks to work on the popular Netflix show and nothing has been finalised, the news has prompted others to offer her roles. “It's still in the discussion phase. Contracts haven't been signed, and it's a little way off. We will possibly see her in The Gentlemen, but something else I'm hearing is that with her return to acting and her signalling her interest in it, there actually are a number of offers that they are seriously considering.”
Before being called the Duchess of Sussex, Markle was known as Rachel Zane, the feisty paralegal, from Suits. It was certainly her breakthrough role, and she remained a part of the popular series for seven seasons before quitting to enter the royal fold. And while With Love, Meghan and a film cameo are certainly creative endeavours, fans must have been looking forward to a fictional project and seeing the Duchess in a new role over the past several years. If Markle does indeed join the cast headlined by Theo James and Kaya Scodelario, it will be her thumping comeback.
However, soon after the news about Markle reportedly being in talks for the Golden Globe-nominated series hit the stands, rumors about the offer being withdrawn started circulating. Coy mentioned that while reporting on the Duchess’ return to acting, she was told that the 45-year-old was “very interested” in one show, which later turned out to be The Gentlemen. “It fell into the whole puzzle of why they were moving back to the UK,” the royal expert said, “Hours later, there's a tweet goes out that says that the deal's off. Now, as we as I currently understand it from my sources, this was all news to Megan and her team. And that as far as they know, that the conversations are ongoing.”
Markle and Prince Harry will be in the UK for an extended period and have already enrolled their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in schools. With terms starting early next month, it is expected that the family of four will cross the pond very soon. While the Cotswolds or Northamptonshire are believed to be the Sussexes’ stay while in the UK, concrete plans for their accommodations are still under wraps.
It is unclear whether Markle and Harry will enter the royal quarters or in what capacity. But with The Gentlemen buzz and reported acting offers, it seems that the Duchess is ready to walk into her old stomping grounds again.
