Andrew’s New Home Has a Chilling Royal Past — It’s Where Kings Took Their 'Final Journeys'
The reported new home of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has grabbed public attention, but not for its luxury or seclusion, instead, for an unsettling historical association involving royal deaths. As per reports, the disgraced royal’s home is close to the abandoned Wolferton railway station, where the bodies of two former kings began their final journeys after death.
Life took a 180-degree turn for Mountbatten-Windsor in 2025. In October, King Charles stripped him of his titles, styles, and honors and issued an eviction notice to leave Royal Lodge. While there has been no official announcement from Buckingham Palace yet, reports suggest that Mountbatten-Windsor will most likely set base at Marsh Farm on the Sandringham estate. According to the Express, deputy royal editor Rebecca Russell spilled, “Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's new home has a secret royal link — and it's pretty grim.”
Russell added that the location of the property appeared to be identified after a 'no-fly' restriction was extended to cover the area. It turns out that the home is situated in the village of Wolferton and is nearly seven miles from Sandringham House. She explained that the place’s notoriety stems from proximity to the Wolferton station, which was shut down in 1969. As per Russell, the station was the place “where the bodies of King George V and King George VI began their final journeys back to London after they both died at Sandringham in 1936 and 1952, respectively.” The macabre association reflects the former Duke’s demotion within the royal family.
The relocation will mark another significant shift in Mountbatten-Windsor's life. He would stop living with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, once they leave Royal Lodge. It will put an end to their strange domestic arrangement that continued even after their divorce in 1996. For the monarchy, Mountbatten-Windsor’s housing situation is part of a much larger problem that has continued to overshadow the Firm.
Royal expert Phil Dampier told Express, “Unfortunately, the whole year's been dominated by Andrew. Both The King and [Prince] William are desperate to try and draw a line under it.” Frustration seems to be building up behind Palace walls. Royal commentator Helena Chard revealed to Fox News that the King “can barely tolerate [his brother] due to his inappropriate behavior.” She claimed the monarch was exhausted between protecting the Crown’s image and managing his brother's scandals.
That tension seems unlikely to ease any time soon. According to The Times, royal expert Roya Nikkhah reported that while William was consulted about Mountbatten-Windsor’s future, he is far from happy and still views the situation as 'unresolved.' Nikkah insisted William aims to take a far harder line after ascending the throne. “When William is King, Andrew will be banned from all elements of royal life. He will be excluded from public and private royal events, including the coronation, and banned from most state occasions.”
