Trooping Through Time

Trooping the Color is one of the most prominent events in the royal calendar. It has to be, considering it is the official birthday of the monarch. An event of such significance often sees the entire Royal Family gather on the balcony of Buckingham Palace to watch the parades, and as history has proven time and again, whenever the entire royal household gathers in the same place, there are bound to be some iconic moments. So, here’s taking a look at the top 5 most iconic moments from Trooping the Color over the years.

Like Father, Like Son

When Prince William debuted at Trooping the Color in 1984, he was twinning in baby blue with his mother, Princess Diana. The future king, who was then only a toddler, looked adorable in the pastel baby suit with white detailing. Incidentally, when it was time for his son, Prince George, to make his debut on the balcony of Buckingham Palace for the event, William chose an uncannily similar suit for him. George, excitedly watched the parades from his father’s arms, just like the Prince of Wales had in 1984. He looked super cute with matching blue shoes and white socks.

Busted By Granny

In 2016, Queen Elizabeth displayed that grandkids are never too old to receive some discipline. During this hilarious moment, the doting father, Prince William, had knelt down beside Prince George to show him all the different aspects of the parade. This prompted the late queen to nudge him to stand up straight, and the then-Duke of Cambridge quickly obliged. The moment had royal fans in stitches.

Louis Being Louis

2019 marked Kate Middleton and William’s youngest son, Prince Louis’s, Trooping the Color debut. However, before the little prince arrived at the balcony of Buckingham Palace, he already gave royal fans the sweetest moment from the ceremony. The toddler and his older siblings, George and Princess Charlotte, were spotted excitedly looking at the parades from a window. To add to the already adorable moment, Louis was caught sucking on his thumb, creating the cutest frame.

No Nonsense Charlotte

Over the years, Charlotte has often taken up the mantle of being her brothers’ disciplinarian. She has often been spotted scolding Louis or telling George to correct his posture. One such moment occurred in 2024, when Louis started swaying to the band’s music, earning a laugh from his mother. However, his sister was less than enthused and told him to stop. She was later seen nudging him to hold his hands together during the national anthem.

Just Like Uncle Harry

Louis has often drawn parallels with his uncle, Prince Harry. When the Duke of Sussex was younger, he would also pull hilarious antics that are now associated with Louis. In 1988, Harry created an iconic moment as he playfully stuck his tongue out. In 2024, Louis was seen pulling the most dramatic faces, at one point prompting Middleton to step in.
