5 Times Kate Middleton Handled Awkward Situations Like a Pro
The Princess of Grace
Kate Middleton has been a senior working royal for several years and has encountered multiple awkward situations. From adorable interruptions to accidental mishaps, she has handled every single one with grace, elegance, and politeness. If there was ever a masterclass on handling awkward moments like a pro, the Princess of Wales might be the best teacher of it.
Not a Hiccup!
There is a reason why Middleton is known as the 'Children's Princess'. She always finds a sweet way to make them feel included and comfortable. During a visit to the Riversley Park Children's Centre in Nuneaton in 2023, a baby interrupted her talk by burping. Instead of being annoyed, the princess immediately exclaimed, "Well done, you!" She further spoke to the woman holding the baby via PEOPLE, "It's always really reassuring when you spend ages trying to get them to burp."
Slip of Hand
Prince William and Middleton's latest outing at the Royal Charity Polo Cup caught global attention due to their swoon-worthy romantic moments. However, it was there that the Princess of Wales once again showed how to handle awkward moments with pure elegance. During the presentation, a player reached out for the trophy, but it wobbled at the base, almost falling on the royal's foot. Thankfully, the player was able to regain his grasp and even Middleton helped out by supporting the trophy with her hand. She laughed off the situation, as now it must have become a core memory in the couple's polo diary.
Soothing the Tickle Monster
In 2023, Middleton visited the Allam Sports Centre and took part in a friendly wheelchair rugby match. While her determination to play despite injured fingers was appreciated, another adorable moment stole the hearts of royal fans. The Princess of Wales was talking to a Disability Rugby League player when another came up behind her and tickled her waist. Naturally, she was initially shocked, but after realising what had happened, Middleton grinned, shook hands with the player and patted him on his back.
The Cutest Thief
It's not just the Princess of Wales that children immediately take to; sometimes it's her handbags as well. During a visit to the Aberfan Memorial Garden in 2023, a toddler became fascinated with the princess's black Mulberry handbag and snatched it, refusing to give it back. The amusing situation made Middleton laugh, as after several attempts of trying to get back her handbag, she finally relented, letting him play with it until she shook hands with other onlookers gathered at the venue. The child's mom was finally successful in retrieving the royal's bag from her child's grasp and later returned it to the beloved royal.
Not a Sign of Arrogance
The royals are certainly very famous across the globe, and it is quite natural that fans would want their autographs. However, royal protocol dictates that members of the monarchy are not allowed to do so. During a visit to Wales earlier this year, a fan asked for Middleton's autograph. The popular royal politely declined the request via PEOPLE, "I can’t sign things, I’m so sorry. I can shake your hand, though." The Princess of Wales eventually hugged the fan, before waving goodbye, and proceeding to meet other onlookers.
