While both were to be future queens, the late Queen Elizabeth made a firm choice when passing down particular high-profile patronages to Kate over Camilla.

Princess of Patronages

One can argue that Queen Elizabeth single-handedly held the monarchy together. However, over the years, she found trusted allies in her family, especially the now-Queen Camilla and Princess Kate. While the former is higher in rank than Kate, the late monarch chose the now-Princess of Wales to hand over several important royal duties rather than Camilla, not to say Camilla didn't receive significant honors of her own. Let's take a look.

Royal Photographic Society

Kate is an avid photographer and is often credited as the talent behind the lens for several beautiful family pictures and birthday portraits. Given her art history major's skills and passion for the camera, the late Queen certainly found her an ideal candidate to pass down the patronage of the prestigious Royal Photographic Society. The late monarch had been the patron of the institution since 1952, the same year as her coronation. Kate took over that role in 2019.

Action for Children

Who would be better suited to be a patron to an organization for children than the 'Children's Princess'? It was seemingly a clear choice between Kate and Camilla as to who would succeed the Queen and be the next patron of Action for Children. The now-Princess of Wales took over the role in 2016. The national charity supports and speaks out for the most neglected and vulnerable children and young people.

In 2020, Kate made history by becoming the first female joint president of the Scout Association. She shared the role with the Duke of Kent. "HRH The Duchess of Cambridge, who has helped Scouts in so many ways over the last eight years, has now kindly agreed to take on this historic role and is the first woman to hold the post in the movement’s 113-year history," the Scouts said in a press release. The Queen had been the patron of the association since 1952.

Family Action

After serving as the patron of Family Action, a charitable organization that has helped families in need for around 65 years, the Queen passed the role to Kate in 2019. The Princess found the perfect occasion for her first day with the charity. She took part in Christmas-themed activities to celebrate the holiday season with the children and families supported by the cause. The beloved royal made decorations and eco-friendly reindeer food. Certainly, Camilla did miss out on the wonderful time.

Wimbledon

The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club is responsible for organizing Wimbledon every year, and the Queen had been the patron of the association for nearly 64 years before she found her successor in Kate. Her love for tennis is no secret, and that must have made her a natural choice. The then-Duchess of Cambridge took over the heavy-duty role in 2016, and over the years, she has become the highlight of the coveted tournament.
