From enjoying a glass of wine to grabbing fast food, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not always about green juices and carefully planned meals. Harry has also been surprisingly open about some of his more controversial experiences, including smoking and experimenting with drugs in his younger years. Here are four surprising vices the couple has admitted too.

Harry has had his share of bad habits, and smoking is one of them. Before he became a husband and father, the Duke lived a more carefree lifestyle. The Prince reportedly had about 20 cigarettes a day before he turned to Paul McKenna's bestselling book Quit Smoking Now to kick the unhealthy habit. A source told Britain's News of the World newspaper, "He has been feeling the pressure, and as a result he has turned back to cigarettes. Harry knows that it doesn't look good to younger people who look up to him. He is really trying to quit." Later, an insider told People that after meeting Markle, “Harry has lost weight, started a healthier diet, and even gave up smoking cigarettes.”

Markle has never hidden her appreciation for good food and drink, and wine is one of her favorite indulgences. The Duchess has spoken about her love of food and wine, with red wine and crisp Californian whites among the varieties that appeal to her. She once also revealed that the name of her blog 'The Tig' comes from a wine called Tignanello. "The first time I had a sip of this wine, it was such an 'aha' moment. I finally understood what people were talking about when they spoke about the body, the legs, or the structure of wine," she shared. Her interest in wine also shows in her catalogue for her lifestyle brand, As Ever. Interestingly, Harry, too, enjoyed a drink or two, letting loose during his younger years.

This is perhaps the most surprising entry on the list. Harry made several candid admissions about drug use in his 2023 memoir, Spare. He revealed that he first tried cocaine at the age of 17, explaining that it made him feel different, although he did not particularly enjoy the experience. "It wasn't much fun, and it did not make me feel especially happy as it seemed to do to everyone else, but it did make me feel different," he penned. The Duke also wrote about smoking cannabis during his school years at Eton and later at Kensington Palace. In another startling account, he described taking magic mushrooms at actor Courteney Cox's home in California in 2016. Harry recalled experiencing hallucinations, including imagining that objects in a bathroom were changing and interacting with him.

Despite their interest in food, wellness, and a balanced lifestyle, Harry and Markle are not immune to the appeal of fast food like the rest of us. Talking about his love for In-N-Out burgers, Harry, back in 2023, told People, "In-N-Out is the best! I order two double-doubles, animal style, fries and a Coke! And that's just for me! Meg gets the cheeseburger and fries with sides of jalapeños. I just stick with ketchup and that special sauce of theirs. So good!"
