4 Royal Roles Princess Kate Has Already Taken Over From Queen Camilla
Kate Takes On More
Princess Kate’s role in the royal family has grown noticeably over the years. She is also taking on responsibilities that have traditionally been closely associated with Queen Camilla. As Kate is set to one day take the throne along with Prince William, it makes sense that her royal role is already starting to look a little different. For instance, Kate has expanded her work in child welfare and hospice care, overlapping and in many ways absorbing the royal portfolio, which Camilla previously championed.
Princess of Wales
Taking on the Princess of Wales title was probably the clearest sign yet of how much Kate’s role had grown. Camilla was legally entitled to the title after marrying Charles, but chose not to use it publicly. When William became Prince of Wales in 2022, Kate took the title herself, becoming the first person to publicly use it since Princess Diana and stepping into one of the monarchy’s most senior roles. As part of the same, Kate travels to Welsh regions to meet local residents, business owners, and community groups.
Duchess of Cornwall
With William becoming Duke of Cornwall, Kate stepped into the Duchess of Cornwall role after Camilla had held it for 17 years. Camilla became closely associated with Britain’s farming and rural communities during that time, and Kate has since carried that connection into her own work. In April 2025, she joined William on the Isle of Mull, visiting a working croft and meeting local farmers and producers to hear about life and work in the island community.
Duchess of Rothesay
Scotland has long been an important part of the role of the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, and Kate has increasingly made that part of the job her own. Camilla had a strong connection to Scotland during her time as Duchess of Rothesay, regularly supporting Scottish organizations and visiting communities across the country. Kate is seemingly following the path where she made a two-day visit to the Isles of Mull and Iona in April 2025. Alongside William, she met local residents, farmers and producers.
Kate Steps Up on the World Stage
Kate has increasingly played a much bigger part in the royal family’s diplomatic work. She has taken on a more visible role during international tours and often joins William on visits where they represent the UK. This year we also saw her make a solo trip to Italy. Additionally, she has taken a more prominent place in state visits hosted in the UK, especially while welcoming Donald and Melina Trump during their 2025 visit. Her soft power shone particularly as Camilla focused on King Charles' recovery.
