A Brand New Chapter

Prince George is gearing up for the next chapter of his life, and while it is an exciting phase, he will also have to face several challenges. As the future King prepares for life at one of Britain’s most famous schools, George will have to settle into a world of traditions, competition, and expectations. From learning some surprisingly tricky Eton rules to finding his feet under an enormous spotlight, George’s school days could be anything but ordinary. Here are some of the biggest challenges waiting for him.

The Colors Test

One of George’s first hurdles could be getting to grips with Eton’s famously complicated traditions. Among them is the Colors Test, which requires pupils to quickly memorize the locations of numerous school buildings as well as the official colors of all 25 boarding houses.

School Under the Spotlight

Unlike his peers, George's every move will be under scrutiny. Just like his father's and uncle's, even his time at Eton is likely to attract intense attention from royal watchers, meaning even ordinary school moments could become news. Security will also have to be carefully managed without making George feel completely separated from his classmates. Finding that balance between protecting the future King and allowing him to enjoy a normal teenage life could be a major challenge.

Demanding Academics

Demanding Academics

Eton is not exactly known for taking things easy academically, and George will have plenty on his plate. The school has a strong reputation for demanding studies, active debate culture, and competitive athletics, which encourage pupils to challenge ideas rather than simply accept them. Alongside his lessons, George will be expected to take part in sports, leadership programmes and other activities which will shape him as an individual. Juggling all of that while adapting to boarding-school life and preparing for his future role won't be easygoing.

Rough It Out

Rough It Out

George might be a future King of Britain, but Eton’s rules are unlikely to bend simply because of his royal status. Any student who breaks school rules will find themselves put “in The Bill” and notified by a “praepostor." As per The Mirror, the punishments can get rather creative too. “Lines” involve copying 100 hexameters of Latin poetry, while a “Georgic” means copying 500. Chores can even include weeding a housemaster’s garden as unpaid labor. Royal title or not, George may have to toughen up during his time at Eton as someone who has never done such chores before.

Escaping William’s Shadow

George may have the advantage of knowing Eton through his father’s experience, but that could also become a challenge. William attended the prestigious school from 1995 to 2000, meaning comparisons between father and son are almost inevitable. From their school academic results to friendships and sporting performances, royal watchers will look out for similarities at every turn. It will be undoubtedly challenging for George to find his own identity at Eton while being constantly measured against his father.
