Kate Middleton's True Feelings About Prince George Leaving for Eton Revealed
It will certainly be an emotional moment for Princess Kate and Prince William when they drop Prince George at Eton College this week.
It feels like it was only yesterday that Princess Kate and Prince William walked out of St. Mary’s Lindo Wing carrying a newborn Prince George, swaddled in a blanket. But that beautiful moment happened 13 years ago. The young royal is old enough to begin the next phase of his education at Eton College this week, and the proud parents are expected to accompany George on his big day.
Dropping George off at Eton would certainly be an extremely emotional moment for Kate and William, as their first bird leaves the nest. Royal author Andrew Lownie mentioned via Woman’s Day, “Catherine is both sad and excited at the prospect of her son becoming a man.” However, the Princess of Wales might find some solace in the fact that George will not be too far away from their family home in Windsor. The teenager can take his father’s lead and drop by Forest Lodge to spend some quality time with his parents and siblings.
However, the proximity to his family might not make things particularly easy for the 13-year-old. Although Eton allows pupils to go home on weekends, Lownie said “boarding will be a challenge” for George. The Waleses must have anticipated this and helped prepare the young royal for it. Earlier this year, William had mentioned during a radio interview that George was boarding.
One of Kate and William’s biggest concerns about sending George to Eton this week would be protecting his privacy and maintaining security. “George has a protection officer go with him to school,” Lownie said. The author also explained that given Eton’s stacked alumni list, the prestigious institution “is used to dealing with high-profile pupils”. William himself seemingly thrived at the school during his five years of education.
Another hurdle that George might face is the academic rigor expected of Etonians. Lownie stated, “Eton is a large, tough school which stresses academic success and it isn’t for everyone”. He believed that William and Kate chose to send their son to the hallowed school as “several of his friends” were going there, but the royal author warned, “It is even more academic than 30 or 40 years ago.”
While Kate and William have previously dropped their children off to school, bidding George a temporary adieu at Eton will be an entirely different experience. It will mark a major milestone in the couple's life as their once-tiny firstborn sets out on his own. journey
