Prince William, who is first in line to the throne, is reportedly building an 'amazing legacy' for his children. Like King Charles, William is deeply passionate about addressing climate change and encouraging people to protect the rapidly deteriorating environment. In light of this, his friend and fellow conservationist, Robert Irwin, revealed that the Prince wishes for his three children to carry forward his legacy of climate optimism.

As reported by Hello! Magazine, when asked whether he thought William was passing on his climate optimism to his children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, Irwin replied, "Prince William is certainly creating an amazing legacy for his kids and for, you know, an entire generation to take inspiration from. And I have no doubt that they'll, you know, carry on that mission." He added, "It's a special thing to be able to take all the experiences that you have in your life and inspire the next generation...And he's doing a fantastic job at that."

Irwin, who's the son of renowned wildlife educator Steve Irwin, serves as the Earthshot Prize Ambassador for William's Earthshot Prize — an award presented to individuals for their contributions to environmentalism. Speaking highly about the Prince's dedication to the initiative, Irwin said, "[Earthshot] really exemplifies his passion, his purpose, and it gives me a lot of hope as someone who's dedicated their life to conservation." He also shared his admiration for working alongside William and their shared commitment for the climate, saying, "I just think he is by far the best man for the job, because when you talk to him behind the scenes, it's exactly the same as when you talk to him when you're on camera...his passion is very genuine."

The Prince of Wales has also spoken about instilling the importance of environmental awareness in his three young children. According to the Daily Mail, while promoting his environmental documentary, The Earthshot Report, William said, "I talk to my children all the time about it, and it's important that they see, touch, feel, and go into nature....and it's really important that we get people out into nature because then they will value it." He also stressed that people must think about nature in a way that is 'sustainable and beneficial' for all.

Prince William also created the Earthshot Prize so that he 'could look his children in the eye' and say that he did his bit for climate change. As per Sky News, in 2021, speaking of his commitment, Jason Knauf, former CEO of The Royal Foundation, said, "The challenge the Duke set himself was 'what is the maximum positive personal contribution I can make in the next 10 years in the fight against climate change? What am I going to do in the next decade that means I can look my children in the eye and say I did my bit?" William's Earthshot Prize awards five winners every year wherein each receives a grant of $1.26 million to continue their environmental work.
