William & Kate's Latest Outing Showed How They're Truly Coping Amid the Andrew Saga: Expert
Royal expert Emily Nash explained how Prince William and Kate Middleton's crucial partnership helps them navigate the rough waters.
The royal family was once seen as an iron-clad institution, projecting unity and shared integrity whenever unfavorable headlines tried to tear them apart. But Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's controversial ties to Jeffrey Epstein proved to be the final nail in the coffin, triggering a noticeable drop in the popularity the monarchy enjoyed. Amid the growing pressure, Prince William and Kate Middleton are relying on a simple strategy: staying aligned as partners and focusing on duty rather than gossip to quietly distance themselves from the disgraced royal.
In an article for HELLO!, royal expert Emily Nash mentioned how the Prince and Princess of Wales projected a calm resilience, staying relaxed and warmly interacting with the public during their recent visit to Wales. Being duty-focused has helped them connect with the public; their visit was well-received, conveying a sense of stability during turbulent times. Nash penned, "William and Kate seemed relaxed, and perhaps even slightly comforted by the enthusiasm with which they were received. Their ease and popularity with the public were reassuring to see, and a sure sign that they are coping with the huge pressure on the family."
The royal expert also praised William and Middleton's support for one another, as they "placed a comforting hand on the small of the other's back," demonstrating just how crucial their partnership is as the Firm navigates rough waters. She stressed that as the future king and queen, who bear the responsibility of the monarchy, the Wales visit offered a much-needed break from the constant heckling directed at them about the Andrew-Epstein saga. Nash analyzed the incident at the 2026 BAFTA awards, where a TV journalist shouted at the couple, "Your Royal Highnesses, is the monarchy in peril?" referring to the Crown's precarious position after the release of the Epstein files.
Against that backdrop, she argued that the couple's deliberate ignorance of the question ended up working in their favor, generating a certain degree of public sympathy. "Having long sought to distance himself and his family from his disgraced uncle's behavior, it has become abundantly clear that he [William] was right to do so." She also pointed to the royal family's 'never complain, never explain' approach, which discourages them from talking about anything potentially damaging in public, in this case, the ongoing police investigations on Mountbatten-Windsor.
Royal author Russell Myers also offered insight into just how much pressure the royals were facing because of Mountbatten-Windsor's past actions. He told the outlet, "Serious questions are going to be asked. I think the politicians are now scratching the surface...We have a situation where MPs are standing up and pretty much listing their perceptions of [Andrew's] behavior." He added, "You have the added issue of the UK government, supported by some of the realms that are coming forward now, saying that they will strip him [Andrew] from the line of succession. This is very, very serious."
