‘Suits’ Co-Star Patrick J. Adams Considers Removing Sweet Tribute to Meghan Markle From Social Media
Despite quitting acting in 2018, Patrick J. Adams Adams still holds Meghan Markle in high regard, admitting that he feels protective of her.
Fans of the Netflix legal drama Suits hardly need a recap of the 'will they or won't they' saga between on-screen lovers Mike Ross and Rachel Zane. While Patrick J. Adams and Meghan Markle were getting hitched on screen, the Duchess swapped lawyers for royalty, tying the knot with Prince Harry in real life. Despite Markle's exit from the series in 2018, Adams still holds her in high regard, admitting in a podcast that he feels protective of her, while, of course, pulling her leg with his signature wit.
The Suits heartthrob spoke with Amanda Hirsch on a new episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast. In an exclusive video shared with PEOPLE, Hirsch told Adams about a note she had received from Markle after posting a message of support on social media. "The way that happened was that her [Markle's] show was coming out, and I had said on my Instagram, where I say stupid s---, that I am worried for Meghan. Cause you know, you've been protective over her in the past." To which Adams responded, "What she's gone through is insane," subtly alluding to the media harassment she faced after marrying Harry.
During the conversation, Hirsch also completed Adams' Instagram bio, which joked about Markle's highly publicized marriage to Harry. It reads, "The other guy from that show that you're watching on that app because that girl married that prince." When asked if the Duchess of Sussex had ever said anything to him about the quirky bio, he replied, "No, never, but I'm sure I got an eye roll." He added, "It's the sort of thing that wherever Meghan is, if she's ever read that, she's going, 'Patrick, give me a break.' I got a lot of eye rolls — that was a constant with Meghan."
Not one to hide his signature wit, Adams also pulled his co-star's legs, quipping that, unlike Hirsch, he had not received a jam from her lifestyle brand, As Ever. Hirsch clarified his misconception, saying, "No, first of all, you need to get on the list," before revealing that she hadn't tasted it because she didn't want to open the jar. When Adams suggested that they should have tried it together, as it would go bad, the host quipped, "Does it? It's preserves — I'm preserving them."
As for Adams' close bond with Markle, he had proudly attended her 2018 wedding to Harry at St. George's Chapel, arriving with his wife, Troian Bellisario. In the past, the father of three has fiercely defended her against media bullying, most notably after her interview with Oprah Winfrey aired. In a March 2021 Instagram post, he said, "It sickened me to read the endless racist, slanderous, clickbaiting vitriol spewed in her direction from all manner of media across the UK and the world, but I also knew that Meghan was stronger than people realized or understood and they would regret underestimating her."
