Sarah Ferguson’s Downfall Just Handed King Charles a ‘Golden Opportunity’ — But Will He Take It?

Sarah Ferguson is once again in the spotlight, and unsurprisingly, it’s tied to her checkered past. On September 20, she made headlines when leaked emails revealed her apology to Jeffrey Epstein, after condemning him in public. The bombshell revelation serves as a wake-up call for King Charles that more scandals are likely yet to come. Commenting on the chaos, royal expert Lee Cohen believes Charles now has the 'golden opportunity' to cut ties with Ferguson and Prince Andrew for good and safeguard the integrity of the monarchy.

The leaked emails are not Ferguson’s only misstep, as her cash-for-access schemes and tone deaf interviews have wreaked havoc on the monarchy's reputation. Reflecting on the same, Cohen wrote for GB News, "The royal family should now put self-preservation over sentiment. That means formal, public distancing: revoking titles where possible, removing references from official websites, and excluding the Yorks from royal events and occasions."
Charles, as he puts it, is torn between his love for his brother and sister-in-law and the respect he has for his royal role. Cohen explained, "While outside organizations act swiftly to protect their reputations, the royal family remains overly cautious, perhaps clinging to hopes of reconciliation."

Citing the late Queen’s strong ‘sense of duty,’ the royal expert suggested Charles follow her example in Ferguson’s case. He opined, "The late beloved Queen was known for her sense of duty and her ability to rise above personal grievances. Honoring that legacy means defending the institution she upheld, not enabling those who undermine it."
Over the years, Charles is known to have tried desperately to evict Andrew and Ferguson from the Royal Lodge, but the Yorks are protected by a lease, retaining their right to live there till 2028. Other than that, the King has not been known to have taken any strict action against the faltering couple.

As such, Charles has earned the ire of not just critics like Cohen but also the British public. People’s distrust of the monarchy has grown in recent years owing to the Epstein scandal and the Sussexes' public fallout. Offering a piece of advice to the monarch in his strongly worded op-ed, Cohen stressed, "By decisively removing the Yorks and Sussexes, the King can restore focus, regain public confidence, and pave the way for a stronger and more respected monarchy."
Prince William reportedly also feels that his father should uninvite Andrew and Ferguson from family events. Commenting on the Prince’s alleged loss of patience, a source told the Daily Mail, "William feels even more strongly... that Andrew and Fergie are an embarrassment and will be urging his father to act. The optics of that pair of chancers guffawing away [at events] look terrible.
