Sarah Ferguson Reportedly Knew About Harry and Meghan's Big Move — and Used It to Her Advantage: Report
Sarah Ferguson’s reported return to the UK comes with a surprising Sussex connection that raises questions about what she knew.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle returned to the UK last week along with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The move came as a surprise to most, as they showed no indication of such plans previously. However, one royal author has claimed that Sarah Ferguson apparently was aware of the couple’s plans to return even before the news became public.
According to royal author Andrew Lownie, Sarah Ferguson was already aware that Harry and Meghan were planning to come back to the UK. He said he had been told this by what he described as “bomb-proof” sources, who claimed the former Duchess of York knew about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s plans.
Lownie wrote for the Daily Mail, “Ferguson knew what was going on, and she laid her own plans accordingly.” He also said that Ferguson’s return could happen while most of the attention remains on Harry and Markle. That could mean there is less focus on the former Duchess of York and the details of her new living arrangements.
As for why Markle may have chosen to tell Ferguson, Lownie pointed to what he sees as some common ground between the two women. He wrote that both had experienced what he described as being in “open warfare” with the Palace “machine.” He also suggested the Duchess of Sussex may have looked to Ferguson as an example of someone who managed to remain partly connected to royal life while also building commercial opportunities around her title and royal ties.
Ferguson has reportedly returned to Britain after spending around seven months abroad. She is now believed to be living in a new home in the Home Counties, outside London. The former Duchess of York is said to be renting a six-bedroom property for around $8,000 a month after getting evicted from the Royal Lodge.
Moreover, a source told the Sun that she is considering sharing her side of the story following the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. “Fergie has been bombarded with requests from all over the world to do sit-down interviews, especially with the big streamers, to tell her side of the story. She is looking at her options. For her, it’s more about retaining editorial control rather than making money,” the insider said.
