Sarah Ferguson may soon find herself drawn into the widening investigation surrounding her ex-husband, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. As reported by Page Six, top legal sources suggest she could be questioned by the police next. She is believed to be in the United Arab Emirates after facing an eviction from her and her former husband’s permanent base, the Royal Lodge. However, if and when she returns to the UK, she could face questions from Thames Valley Police, who arrested the former prince earlier on February 19 on suspicion of misconduct in public office.

While there is no evidence of any criminal wrongdoing by Ferguson, a top barrister has revealed to the outlet, “The police may have a basis for questioning Sarah Ferguson [as] she may be a relevant witness in this case. They may want to ask her some questions. While Sarah Ferguson would not have been in a public office at that time, I don’t know what she knows, and if she has disclosed anything (in emails consistent with her role as an ex-royal and Andrew’s ex-wife).” The insider also quipped that “it’s up to police” when it comes to deciding what to do; “as part of this investigation they can call upon who they want.”

Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested in the early morning of his 66th birthday on suspicion of misconduct in public office for allegedly forwarding restricted information from trade documents to scandalous US financier Jeffrey Epstein. If convicted, he could be serving a lifetime prison sentence. Although Ferguson is not facing any accusations of wrongdoing, her support for her ex-husband has led to renewed scrutiny as the investigators are examining the newly released batch of Epstein files by the US Department of Justice.

Ferguson is known for consistently standing by the disgraced royal even after his titles, style, and honors were revoked. She has also been dealing with utter embarrassment after the surfaced emails show her asking favors from the late convicted p*******e and even offering to work for him. She allegedly wrote to Epstein, “Just marry me,” in an email dating back to January 2010, following his release from prison. In another email, she also asked to be his house assistant, as she needed money “desperately.” Later, the ex-Duchess also called herself “very traumatized and alone.” In 2010, she even asked him for £20,000 (approx. $26,937) for rent, as the landlord threatened to involve the newspapers.

Personal embarrassment is just the tip of the iceberg of this fallout. As per CNN, six of Ferguson’s companies, where she is the sole director, are shutting down. The businesses are reportedly applying to be struck off the UK’s official Companies House register. Her charity, Sarah’s Trust, is also closing for the “foreseeable future," as per the Associated Press. Following this, a statement was released, saying, “Our chair, Sarah Ferguson, and the board of trustees have agreed that with regret the charity will shortly close for the foreseeable future," the trust said in a statement. “This has been under discussion and in train for some months.’’
