Royal Family Releases New Tribute Portrait for Queen Elizabeth Featuring Three Rarely Seen Royals
The portrait brings together Charles and Camilla with a wider group of senior and lesser-known royals.
The British Royal Family has often used official photographs to mark key royal events and personal milestones. From coronation ceremonies and jubilees to Christmas celebrations and official birthdays, they often gather for a perfectly arranged group portrait that highlights their unity and tradition. Similarly, the Royal Family has now marked what would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday with a new official portrait. While the photograph has quickly drawn attention from royal fans, much of the interest centers on three rarely seen royals.
The portrait brings together King Charles and Queen Camilla with a wider circle of senior and lesser-known royals, capturing a rare family moment on camera. Alongside the King and Queen are nine other royals, including Prince William, Kate Middleton, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Duchess Sophie, and the Duke of Kent. Also featured are the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Princess Alexandra.
The Duke of Gloucester, Prince Richard, was Queen Elizabeth’s first cousin, while Princess Alexandra was also one of her cousins, according to Town & Country Magazine. Incidentally, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Princess Alexandra rarely appear at royal events, and it is for this reason that the photograph has caught the attention of royal fans.
One noticeable absence from the portrait is Sir Timothy Laurence, Anne's husband, as he does not hold the role of a senior working royal. The tribute to Elizabeth’s birthday extended beyond just the family portrait, with several other moments marking the special day. For instance, Charles shared a personal video message, offering his views on his mother’s life, service to the nation, and a lasting legacy. In the video, he said, “Today, as we mark what would have been my beloved mother's 100th birthday, my family and I pause to reflect on the life and loss of a sovereign who meant so much to us all and to celebrate and know the many blessings of her memory.”
As reported by Pure Wow, the monarch added, “Much about the times we now live in, I suspect, may have troubled her deeply, but I take heart from her belief that goodness will always prevail and that a brighter dawn is never far from the horizon.” Charles further recalled one of the late Queen's public messages that perfectly fits the current world scenario. He said, “For, as a young Princess Elizabeth put it in her first ever public broadcast, aged just 14, we can each play our part ‘to make the world of tomorrow a better and happier place’.”
Charles and Camilla also participated in a separate engagement on Tuesday, joining other members of the family to review proposed designs for the future Queen Elizabeth Memorial in London. It will include the statues of both Elizabeth and her late husband, Prince Philip. Elizabeth was one of Britain's longest-reigning monarchs. She was born on April 21, 1926, and became queen at just 25, serving the nation for about 70 years. She passed away on 8 September 2022 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, at the age of 96.
