Meghan Markle and Prince Harry celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary recently on May 19. Markle took to her Instagram handle to share a mood board featuring the cherished memories of her life with Harry so far. The board also offered several rare peeks of their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. While royal fans were thrilled with the sweet milestone montage, others criticized the Duchess for what they claimed was an over-the-top gesture. A royal expert chimed in on the same and claimed Markle was sending a clear 'message'.
Royal expert Matt Wikinson told The Sun that opting for a mood board for a wedding anniversary was strange. He opined, “I mean, I've never heard of someone doing a mood board for a wedding anniversary, but maybe it does happen now.” The expert argued that Markle is “just so Californian in everything she does.” While he stressed he was not criticising her way of doing things, he added, “Probably it's completely normal. But I just think it's...you can look but you can't touch, sort of thing.” Wikinson also commented on Markle's pictures of her children. He noted that Markle gave the impression: “You know, these are my children, but they're tiny, tiny pictures, so you can't see them. And aren't Harry and I happy?”
The expert continued, dubbing the mood board a “narcissistic way of doing things to celebrate an anniversary.” He added, “Showing it to the world. Surely if they really were as happy as she makes out, she wouldn't need to tell anyone. That's what it smacks of to me.” Royal expert Higo Vickers also echoed, "She obviously wants to put out the message that all is well, and that they're a happy and united family, and I guess that leaves the rest of us to make up our minds as to whether we go along with it."
Markle’s mood board featured the Duchess with a baby bump, a royal first. It also had a sonogram image of Prince Archie. In another picture, Archie could be seen giving his sister a peck while standing in front of the fireplace. In her post, Markle penned, “Seven years of marriage. A lifetime of stories. Thanks to all of you (whether by our side or from afar) who have loved and supported us throughout our love story. We appreciate you. Happy anniversary!” Having wished herself on her anniversary, an odd act, Markle drew criticism yet again.
The post follows Markle and Harry, trying to quash divorce rumors in different interviews. On April 28, the Duchess made her debut podcast appearance sans makeup on the Jamie Kern Lima Show, where she talked about her relationship with Harry, and asserted how they would be married ‘forever.’ Calling her husband a ‘fox,’ according to the Daily Express, Markle complimented him for being ‘very, very handsome’ and for having a beautiful heart. She said, “When you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way. And that's why I feel like it's more of a honeymoon period for us now.”
