Royal Author Reveals How Kate Middleton Had to Teach Prince William a Basic Childhood Game

Prince William and Princess Kate have long been admired as parents within royal circles and beyond.

Prince William and Princess Kate have always been admired as parents in the royal circles and beyond. They have always gone above and beyond to put their kids first while shielding them from the burdens and sacrifices that come with the royal life. At the same time, they have also worked hard to prepare Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis for their actively royal-coded lives ahead. When they became parents, it was to be expected that the Prince and Princess of Wales would have to adapt to their new roles, learn along the way, and support each other through every step of the journey.

However, it was quite shocking to know that Middleton actually had a thing or two to teach William so he could play some basic and extremely common games with his children, according to Woman & Home. Royal author Tom Quinn noted in his book, Yes Ma'am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants, the Prince was unaware of what a piggyback ride was until the Princess, who was apparently surprised upon learning this, taught him how to play the childhood game. Furthermore, Quinn went on to discuss how a maid apparently told him that “Kate had to show him how to give the children a piggyback.”

She further added, “William said very quietly, 'My father never gave me a piggyback.'” The insider also suggested, “I don't know where William would be without Kate; she hasn't had everything done for her throughout her life, so she calms him down when he gets a bit fractious. She said he sometimes has to be treated as her fourth child.” Meanwhile, Quinn explained how the Princess went above and beyond by saying, “Kate had to explain many of the things that parents outside the royal family do with their children as a matter of course.”

Beyond this, royal biographer Ingrid Seward also spoke about how William intentionally avoided a heavily formal household at their Windsor Great Park home for the sake of his children, desiring an upbringing closer to Kate's than his own. He wanted them to do their own chores and learn practical life skills. Seward shared, “William and Kate have never wanted live-in staff; I think that’s the modern way. Since William was a little boy, he’s seen all the staff at the late Queen’s homes, and he never wanted that. It’s not something Kate grew up with either.” Looking at all three of their kids, it’s genuinely safe to say that this was a great decision!
