Queen Camilla’s Son Reveals One Bad Habit She Had to Give Up After Marrying King Charles
Tom Parker Bowles shared a funny story that revealed how royal life forced Queen Camilla to tone down one longtime habit.
Queen Camilla may be one of the most senior members of the British royal family at the moment, but a fresh revelation from someone who knows her best has shed light on a lesser-known aspect of her personality. Her son, Tom Parker Bowles, shared, perhaps the most humorous story, which showed just how much King Charles' wife had to change once she married into the royal family.
In a conversation with Virgin Radio UK's The Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Wednesday morning, Camilla's son, Tom Parker Bowles, shared a humorous story about his mother's language and how it has evolved since she became Queen. The food writer and author opened up about her tendency for colorful expressions while discussing her well-known roast chicken recipe during an interview with radio host Chris Evans.
Talking about Camilla's previous talking style, Bowles shared that she used to tell her cook, "shove a lemon where the sun don't shine" when giving cooking instructions for her famous roast chicken. Now that she's the Queen, however, she's had to become far more polite in her wording. Further in the interview, Evans quipped, "You've mentioned your mum's roast chicken. Give us the Queen's recipe for a roast chicken." To which Bowles replied, "It's the same one. You get the best chicken you can afford. Yep. 'Shove a… 'place, please, place a lemon. 'Place a lemon actually down its neck cavity.'"
He continued, "She used to say 'where the sun don't shine', but it's not actually where the sun don't shine; it’s the neck." The host could not control his laugh at the revelation and added, "She's changed!" Bowles replied, "I know. And then lots of butter on it, and then shove it in the oven for, for what, 50 minutes, an hour, and that's it. It's all in it. It's so simple. It all depends on the quality of the bird."
The light-hearted exchange offered us all another glimpse of Camilla's relatable personality, something she has become known for throughout her years in public life. Despite the formalities that come with royal duties, she has often spoken candidly about the challenges of maintaining composure during official engagements. Camilla has previously admitted that she frequently struggles to keep a straight face during formal royal events where everyone is expected to be on their best behavior. The Queen once joked that she sometimes has to "swallow and pinch herself very hard" to stop herself from laughing out loud.
