Princess Kate Takes on a Different Name to Help an 11-Year-Old Boy
Kate Middleton gets cheeky while donating to a cause close to her heart as she uses her official title to sign off!
Kate Middleton recently undertook a very grueling physical task—taking on the Three Peaks Challenge. During the challenge, the Princess of Wales met an 11-year-old, wheelchair-bound boy named Ted, who was there for the same challenge. This isn't Ted's first feat of endurance—having already conquered Snowdon twice and reached the summit of Ben Nevis last year, he continues to prove that no mountain is too high.
The challenge, which included climbing the UK's three highest mountains—Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England, and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) in Wales—in 24 hours, saw Middleton complete the task within the given time frame before she was greeted by her whole family at the end of the line. Similarly, Ted also climbed Ben Nevis, a challenge he undertook to raise funds for Molly Olly’s Wishes, a charity that supports children with serious illnesses, granting wishes and delivering vital moments of joy during their darkest days.
Having met Ted during the trek, after coming back home, Middleton decided to donate to his cause. At the initial stage, the goal of the fundraising was initially set at £5,000 (~$6,600), but after the Princess's anonymous donation, it got a boost and was increased to £15,000 (~$20,000). At the time of writing, £12,847 (~$17,000) had been raised.
One thing that caught the eyes of royal enthusiasts, however, was how the Princess signed the message after making her donation. She wrote, "One of the real highlights of the Three Peaks Challenge was meeting inspiring people like you along the way. Huge congratulations to the entire team for raising money for such a wonderful cause. C"—a message that she signed with a surprise name, Catherine Wales.
It is close to impossible to find a public record of a note or message signed by a royal family member with their official title. So given Middleton’s little stunt over the weekend, it feels like something that she put some thought into before handing out her ‘thank you’ note.
The grueling endurance challenge saw the Princess walk 23 miles and climb a total of 3,064 meters, traveling 462 miles between the historic peaks. To complete the journey, she was driven from Scotland to England and finally on to Wales by a dedicated support team from Kensington Palace. Middleton also posted an image of herself at the summit of Ben Nevis on the evening of June 27, with a long message for the fans, talking about how cancer changed her life, and even after her recovery, it is still very much a part of her life.
