Princess Kate Switches to ‘Mom Mode’ After Sweet Run-In With Excited Child — Watch
A surprise run-in with a young child during a London event brought out Kate Middleton's softer side.
Kate Middleton might be the Princess of Wales, but “she is a mom first.” That is what a royal fan said when an unexpected moment of her with a child went viral on the internet. On May 6, she was seen at the University of East London during an official visit, where the adorable moment was captured. While visiting a school in Stratford to support the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, Middleton ended up sharing a sweet, totally unplanned moment with a young fan that quickly stole attention.
An excited child in a blue sweater came rushing toward her while holding a piece of paper just as she stepped into a hallway wearing a tan suit in a video posted on X. The unexpected run-in left the young fan clutching onto the future Queen’s legs for balance, creating a sweet little moment between them. Still smiling, she reached for the child’s shoulders to help steady them after the accidental collision. Middleton then gently placed a hand on the youngster’s back and guided them into the room she had just walked out of. Watch the video here!
During the visit, Middleton spent time with families and children while launching a new online platform called Foundations for Life: A Guide to Social and Emotional Development. She spoke about the project and explained that it will make life a little easier for working parents. The initiative builds a support system that “does take energy and effort” and that the goal is to help families find that sense of community more easily.
She said that she hopes “[The project makes it easier] for mums and all parents to try and have access to that really important information and that guidance, but in a more tangible way from those interactions that they have, whether that's through the health service or through the educational system.”
At the same time, another piece of good news announced is that the royal will be taking an overseas trip for the first time since her cancer diagnosis. She will be going to Italy on May 13 and 14. Confirmed by Kensington Palace, she will spend two days in Reggio Emilia focusing on early childhood development. During the trip, she will meet with families, teachers, and local leaders to get a closer look at the work being done to support young children and parents.
Back in 2025, the Princess of Wales revealed that she was in remission after receiving chemotherapy for her diagnosis. Although the details of her condition were never revealed, royal biographer Christopher Andersen has tried to shed some light on the type of cancer she possibly has. In his new book, Kate!: The Courage, Grace, and Power of the Woman Who Will Be Queen, the author also shares details about her health during the treatment period.
