Kate Middleton recently shared a rare health update. The Princess of Wales was diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer in March 2024. After undergoing preventive chemotherapy, she announced in January this year that she is now in remission. While royal fans were thrilled at the news, the Princess's cancellation of her appearance at Royal Ascot last-minute re-ignited public concern as she sought a balance between recovery and duty. In the aftermath of the same, Middleton opened up about her new normal of life after treatment.

According to People magazine, in her first public appearance after pulling out from the Royal Ascot last month, on July 2, the Princess of Wales, during a recent visit to Colchester Hospital in Essex, got candid about her struggles with cancer and recovery. Reflecting on her life in remission, the 43-year-old said, “You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment's done, then it's like, 'I can crack on, get back to normal,' but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult.” The mother-of-three further shared, “You are not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you are not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to.”

Looking back also at the support she received during her treatment, she added, “And actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable.” The Princess believes cancer is life-changing not only for the patient but also for their family. She admitted that things had not been easy. “You have to find your new normal, and that takes time...and it's a roller coaster, it's not smooth, like you expect it to be. But the reality is you go through hard times.” The Princess of Wales’s cancer diagnosis came about a month after Buckingham Palace announced King Charles's. While Middleton is in remission, the King is still seeking treatment and maintaining a balance between his work and personal life.

Middleton's cancer diagnosis changed a lot of things for Prince William and the Wales children, with Prince George now reportedly set to break royal tradition and pursue schooling not at Eton, but rather closer to home. William, meanwhile, reportedly also is reluctant to make too many visits abroad to represent the King.

Commenting on Middleton and her battle with cancer, royal expert Hilary Fordwich shared, “Her emphasis on a ruthless discipline in her regimented daily routine and commitment to self-improvement has helped her.” According to Fox News Digital, the expert continued, “She divides her time meticulously between parenting, supporting the heir to the throne, and her royal duties and manages to fit in an intense workout regime.”
