Princess Kate Makes History in Surprise New Video With Prince William — Fans Call It a 'Class Act'
The video marked Kate Middleton's first time speaking Welsh publicly, making for a rare yet impeccable milestone.
Kate Middleton just celebrated a new milestone on St. David's Day — and she made it look effortless! On March 1, she and Prince William marked the national Welsh holiday with a powerful message delivered in fluent Welsh. In a clip posted on their social media, the royal couple celebrated the country's rich history and people, speaking warmly about their previous visits. The video marked Middleton's first time speaking the language publicly, proving once again that there's little she can't do.
In the clip posted on Instagram, the Prince of Wales opens in Welsh, "To everyone in Wales, a very happy St. David's Day." The Princess of Wales then continues, "Wales is very close to our hearts, and we look forward to every visit." William adds, "It is a beautiful country with a rich history and wonderful people," as Middleton concludes, "Wishing you a day of celebration with family and friends." The caption also conveyed the couple's wishes for the Dewi Festival Day.
For those unversed, St. David's Day is an annual celebration in Wales that honors its patron saint and is marked on March 1.
William and Middleton's sweet video comes just three days after they visited the country on February 28, warmly interacting with well-wishers during a walkabout. Bearing the rain, the couple stopped at community hubs like The Hanging Garden, where they engaged in discussions on creativity and resilience. Middleton, in particular, impressed the children who were holding daffodils and Welsh flags to see her. During the walkabout, the 'Children's Princess' even played an impromptu game of rock, paper, scissors with the kids and hugged an excited young girl, who refused to let her go. The events happened as part of the St. David's Day celebrations and goodwill tour in Wales.
Interestingly, unknown to many, the couple had relocated temporarily to Wales early in their marriage, when William was stationed at RAF Valley on Anglesey. After becoming the Prince and Princess of Wales in 2022, they made their first official visit to Wales in September that year. William has never shied away from speaking about his 'deep affection' for the country, noting that it had a special place in his family's lives. On recent trips, including St. David's Day engagements, William and Middleton have praised the country's rich history, warm communities, and vivacious culture and expressed their desire to visit again.
As for their impeccable Welsh speaking skills, while this year marked Middleton's first attempt at the language, William has spoken it many times before. Previously, he has recorded videos speaking the language to mark St. David's Day, albeit without his wife. In the past, he has acknowledged his attempts at learning Welsh, revealing that he uses language apps to practice conversational Welsh, speaking simple phrases when meeting the crowds during visits. Meanwhile, the Princess of Wales has spoken French and a little bit of Gaelic Irish during royal engagements abroad.
As the recent video went viral, royal fans have showered the couple with praise. On Instagram, one commenter remarked, "Class act!" while another added, "You two are great ambassadors for our United Kingdom."
