Princess Eugenie’s Third Pregnancy Might Be a Blessing in Disguise For the Yorks, Says Expert
Princess Eugenie’s 2026 pregnancy announcement is offering the House of Yorks a joyful respite from a year of scandals.
The last couple of years have been quite difficult for the House of York, largely due to the questionable actions of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson. While the two continue to face the implications of their involvement in the Epstein scandal, the brunt of the matter has spilled onto their two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, as well. However, the joyous news that Eugenie is expecting her third child may provide the light at the end of the tunnel for the Yorks.
Every time the Yorks have been mentioned in the press over the past several months, the coverage has been unfavorable, ranging from Mountbatten-Windsor's arrest to Beatrice and Eugenie's absence from the Easter service. However, the tides seemed to have turned. For the first time in ages, the family is receiving positive headlines. The catalyst is Eugenie’s third pregnancy, and even before the birth, the news has offered a much-needed respite and a welcome distraction from the family's ongoing legal and social debacles.
Speaking to HELLO! Royal commentator Emily Nash said, “Regardless of all that has gone on with her parents, this is wonderful news for Princess Eugenie and will give the whole royal family something positive to focus on after a tough few months. It’s something joyful and hopeful in the middle of what has been a very grim chapter in the York family’s history.”
Last week, after Eugenie announced that she and husband Jack Brooksbank were expecting their third child, Buckingham Palace also confirmed the news, noting that the baby is due this summer. The Palace stated, “His Majesty the King has been informed and is delighted with the news.” The acknowledgment is significant, as reports suggest King Charles has remained supportive of Eugenie and Beatrice throughout their recent challenges. Nash believed that the monarch’s inclusion in the announcement may hint towards the York princesses being welcomed back into the fold. “The King’s warm words show that he still has a great deal of affection for Eugenie and that he has not ostracised his nieces. We might well start seeing them at family gatherings again,” she said.
Eugenie and Brooksbank already have two sons: August, 5, and Ernest, 2. To make the good news even more heartwarming, the couple found an adorable way to incorporate the boys in the baby announcement. In the shared image, the boys are holding an ultrasound scan.
However, Nash noted that while the new arrival brings light to a difficult period for the Yorks, the child will enter a much different family dynamic than their older brothers. “While their grandmother and grandfather have spent plenty of time with August and Ernest, they are likely to keep more of a distance this time around, although I’m sure Sarah will find it very hard to stay away from a new grandchild,” she highlighted. The new baby will be 15th in line to the throne after birth, pushing Prince Edward to the 16th spot on the line of succession.
