The late Princess Diana once shared a heartfelt prediction about her eldest, Prince William. The People’s Princess argued that the country was ‘lucky’ to have William as its future heir. Reflecting on her poignant words, royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes Diana had foreseen her son's future popularity, noting how deeply he is loved by the British public today.

Bond recalled her conversation with the late Princess in a recent interview. As reported by Hello! magazine, she revealed that Diana allegedly told her, “William's alright. The country is very lucky to have William.” Reflecting on her prescient words, Bond said, “I think she was bang on. Clearly, William is doing something very right. His informal, approachable way of going about his work is resonating with the public.” The expert added, “Even the way he talks is different from previous generations. He's well spoken, of course, but not overly posh. He dresses well, of course, but is quite often wearing jeans and trainers.”

Bond also praised William’s plan for a more modern monarchy. She noted, “He'll pose for selfies with the crowds, he'll even work the camera for them if they get flustered! All this adds up to a prince and future king who seems reasonably in touch.” Indeed, William's popularity has skyrocketed in recent years, as echoed by a recent survey by YouGov in May 2025, which cited the Prince of Wales as the most popular and well-liked royal, with 75% of British people viewing him positively. Similarly, the Princess of Wales also had an impressive 72% favorability rating. Meanwhile, Prince Harry, ranked third lowest with only a 27% positive rating.

The royal commentator also highlighted the importance of such polls for the monarchy. She opined, “I don't know whether the royals pay much attention to opinion polls, but they probably should. William himself has said that it is vital for the monarchy to stay relevant and in touch.” She continued, “Opinion polls – however wrong they can sometimes be – are some sort of gauge as to whether the royals are connecting with people.”

Bond is said to have had her first extended meeting with the late Princess in June 1995. As for William, he has, over the years, paid homage to his late mother’s legacy by spotlighting charitable endeavors that were once close to her heart. In 2009, he became a contributor to the Child Bereavement UK, a charity that supports bereaved children and their families. The organization was also founded by Diana’s close friend, Julia Samuel. He also participates in The Diana Award, which recognizes young people for their social action and humanitarian work. William is additionally the patron of The Passage and Centrepoint, two charities dedicated to ending homelessness. As reported by People magazine, William once recalled how his late mother always spoke to him about homelessness, which inspired him to advocate against the social issue.
