Princess Beatrice Eager For Royal Role, but Palace Fears Another Royal Might Slip In ‘Via Back Door'

Princess Beatrice's hopes to take on a bigger role within the Firm have quietly come to a halt. For years, she was seen as one of the most dependable royals the Crown could turn to. Unlike her parents, Sarah Ferguson and Prince Andrew, she was scandal-free and ready to step up whenever needed. However, after Ferguson’s 2011 email to her ‘supreme friend’ Jeffrey Epstein came to light recently, insiders are allegedly doubtful of Beatrice’s standing and her prospects within the royal fold. Now, a source has shared that the Princess has 'lost all hope' of securing a royal appointment. This has prompted her to shift her focus to a new career path in the private sector.

The source told the Daily Mail that Beatrice was “keen to help ease the burden on King Charles and Prince William by carrying out more royal engagements.” In 2024, when both Charles and Princess Kate were diagnosed with cancer just weeks apart from each other, such a request might have been welcomed. But Palace aides reportedly fear that allowing Beatrice to take on official duties would invite renewed scrutiny of her parents’ past controversies. "She’s never put a foot wrong, don’t forget – and she shouldn’t be punished for the sins of her father," the source noted. "But the King’s courtiers are concerned Andrew could try to ‘get in via the back door’ by exerting influence over her.”
This rejection appears to have spurred Beatrice to redirect her energy. In August 2025, she registered a new technology business called Purpose Economy Intelligence Ltd, formally stepping away from speculation about royal work. This move marks a practical shift for the 37-year-old, who has consistently shown an interest in innovation and education over the years. The venture is seen as her seeking independence while also spotlighting the charitable causes she values.

This contrasts with the optimism earlier in 2024, when the cancer diagnoses of Kate and Charles led to talk of 'fresh blood.' As reported by Marie Claire, both Beatrice and her sister, Princess Eugenie, were considered potential stand-ins for Kate during her treatment. “Beatrice will be stepping up the number of engagements she does," an insider had claimed. Apparently, Charles was particularly eager, holding the opinion that "they [Beatrice and Eugenie] have grown into very sensible, lovely women who... could be a real asset."

Those plans never materialized, with royal author Tom Quin later adding that senior aides and perhaps Kate and Prince William were worried about the optics of relying on the York sisters. "They sense that Beatrice and Eugenie feel that, as virtual outcasts themselves, they have far more in common with Harry and Megan than with any other part of the family,” Quinn argued. Now, the picture looks more bleak than ever. While still quite popular with the public, Beatrice operates outside the working royal circle.
