Royal Aide Reveals What Could Finally Bring Prince William and Harry Together
As Prince Harry prepares for a UK visit, a former aide has weighed in on the brothers' chances of reconciliation.
Prince William and Prince Harry were once a formidable force; the situation, however, is said to be different now. Previously, Royal biographer Russell Myers discussed the ongoing estrangement between the two brothers, suggesting that the relationship is allegedly at its worst. He remarked, 'It’s done,' but he also expressed a glimmer of hope for possible reconciliation in the future. In a similar vein, a former royal aide has now shed light on the situation since Prince Harry is expected to visit the UK next month.
Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, who previously served as an equerry to Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Mother, and was a dedicated aide to the Prince and Princess of Wales and Prince Harry, is releasing a novel that reveals several royal secrets. In an exclusive with The Times, the former aide made a surprising statement when asked about a future reconciliation between the brothers. "Do you know what?" he said. "I think I’d better steer clear of that Harry issue." After a pause, he added, "What I would say is that I was and am very fond of him. He has huge redeeming features, and I’m a perennial optimist." Meanwhile, he lauded them by describing William as the ‘Lion King’ and Harry as a ‘mischievous cub’, stating that "he loved them both." It is unclear whether the Sussexes intend to meet the Prince and Princess of Wales, with reports indicating their relationship is currently strained.
A palace insider noted that the Prince and Princess of Wales are still deeply hurt by Harry and Markle's remarks about feeling abandoned and mistreated by the royal family. During an interview with Oprah Winfrey in April 2021, they alleged racism within the family. Harry further criticized his family in his memoir, Spare, referring to the King as "old man," labeling Queen Camilla a "wicked stepmother," and describing a physical altercation with William. Meanwhile, Myers's new book, William and Catherine: The Monarchy’s New Era: The Inside Story, revealed that Prince William allegedly felt deeply betrayed by Harry, vowing never to speak to him again.
As per PEOPLE, Historian Robert Lacey emphasized that the rift is deep and lasting, suggesting that reconciliation depends on Harry issuing an apology. "They both deeply believe that they’re fighting for profound points of principle,” Lacey concluded. The two brothers interacted for the last time in September 2022 during the funeral events for Queen Elizabeth II. While both were also present at the funeral of their uncle, Lord Robert Fellowes, in August 2024, they had maintained a distance. Next month, Prince Harry will be embarking on a five-day tour of the UK, and it remains to be seen whether the two brothers will take the opportunity to make amends.
