Prince William Aims High for Earthshot Amid Anticipation Over Kate’s Return
EXCLUSIVE ANALYSIS: The Princess of Wales may be preparing for a major moment alongside her husband.
PRINCESS KATE'S highly anticipated return is reportedly on the horizon.
The Princess of Wales may be preparing for a major moment alongside her husband, Prince William, as they get ready to travel to Mumbai for the upcoming Earthshot Prize ceremony. With the environmental initiative being particularly close to the Prince's heart, Princess Kate's potential return to the global platform has already sparked excitement, especially as she has not attended the event since 2022.

Speaking to The Royal Observer's Josh Rom, royal expert and BBC editor Pandora Forsyth discussed the significance of the couple's appearance, William's plans for Earthshot, and why Kate's presence could make the occasion even more special. The Princess last attended the Earthshot Prize ceremony in Boston in 2022, and while she wholeheartedly supported the endeavor, her unfortunate cancer diagnosis forced her to step back from public engagements, making her return to the initiative particularly meaningful.
Pandora explained that appearing together would allow the Prince and Princess to bring attention to a cause they both care deeply about. "Yes. And a brilliant way to come out with them together, to have all eyes on them and speak about a cause that is incredibly close to William's heart, and very much be together as a team," she shared before adding, "They know that if they come out together, the whole conversation will be about Earthshot, which is what they want."

Forsyth added that Kate has continued supporting William's work behind the scenes, making her presence at the ceremony even more special, noting, "And Catherine has very much been supporting him behind the scenes to help him with this. So, it'll be really lovely to see her there. And I've got no doubt that if she goes, then it's going to be it's going to explode with excitement." The Mumbai ceremony also marks an important step in William's ambition to take Earthshot to a wider international audience.
The Prince has been involved in several promotional activities in recent weeks, including a cricket match on The Mall and his appearance on The Graham Norton Show. Forsyth pointed out that organizing such a major event requires months of preparation, with William likely to have been involved in planning every detail well in advance. She detailed, "He'll have known about every single thing. We only just hear about it, you know, a couple weeks before, but he'll have been planning this by the end of last year. Um, if not before, if not before, [laughter] if not before, if not before."

Forsyth also highlighted why India is an important location for the initiative, explaining that the country offers significant opportunities for environmental projects to make a difference. Royal commentator Afua Hagan also added to the conversation, saying she was particularly looking forward to discovering which projects would receive the prestigious £1 million prize (approximately $13,46,135 USD). She added, "India has had seven entries into the Earthshot Prize that have been finalists so far. I think it'll be really interesting to see what projects become the one that gets the 1 million prize, the one that can scale up to be, you know, a real sustainable solution."
