MEGHAN Markle is experiencing a ‘mix of emotions’ following the emergence of disturbing allegations against her estranged father, according to a source familiar with the situation.
The Duchess of Sussex is said to be grappling with feelings of anger, upset and relief after the news emerged that her father was reported to the police for possession of child sexual abuse material.
A source familiar with the situation explained to The Royal Observer, “There are a lot of mixed feelings, between tears of devastation and relief. It would be hard for anyone to know what to feel in this situation. I think she looks at her daughter, and that sets her off into tears of anger and upset; it is utterly heartbreaking.”

They added: “But then there’s this relief that it’s finally out there, and those around her hope that people understand what she has been feeling for all these years.”
The Royal Observer now understands no investigation was undertaken into the allegations against Thomas Markle, 82, by the Met Police, despite the Duchess of Sussex “receiving assurances” after receiving the letter.
In her statement, Meghan said: “In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. That letter was subsequently shared with me. It made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father, and I was given assurances that these were being investigated.”

My source reiterated frustration previously described to The Royal Observer over the constraints on speaking publicly at the time, which they attributed to police and legal considerations.
The Metropolitan Police have confirmed the force received a letter detailing allegations in 2019, which passed to the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, but the police have also since confirmed the information was not shared with other law enforcement agencies. They are now considering referring the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) over the handling.

Meanwhile, Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr, 60, apparently reported their dad to investigators in the Philippines after discovering a cache of materials among boxes of belongings at his father’s residence in Cebu.
Speaking to The Sun newspaper, he said: “I’m so, so sorry, Meghan."

“I’m ashamed that I spent years taking his side when you fell out with him. I know we’re not close, but I can still remember holding you when you were a baby and looking after you when you were small.”
He added: “So please accept my apology and know that I wish you and your family all the best for the future.” Sources familiar with the situation have since told the Royal Observer that despite the seemingly grovelling apology, it remains unlikely the pair will reconcile.
The Royal Observer has approached a spokesperson for the Duchess of Sussex for comment. The allegations against Thomas Markle Sr. remain unproven and he denies the allegations.
