Prince Harry’s UK Return May Include the Whole Family — for More Than One Reason

Royal experts point to a carefully considered plan behind the visit.

Prince Harry has learned, perhaps the hard way, that when he travels alone, the sky becomes the limit for rumour mongering. Every solo appearance goes on to spark fresh whispers about his marriage, his future, and his distance from Meghan Markle. This summer, insiders suggest, he is keen to avoid that narrative altogether. And that may explain why his next UK trip is shaping up to be a family affair. Another added benefit could be that his father, King Charles, could meet his grandchildren after 2022.

For the first time in four years, Prince Archie, now six, and Princess Lilibet, four, could return to Britain. According to royal insiders, the Sussexes are considering bringing their children to the UK this summer to attend the one-year countdown event for the 2027 Invictus Games. And timing, becoming the major factor here, has catalyzed the decision to travel altogether. Much depends on security. Harry has long argued that without adequate police protection, it is unsafe for his family to visit the UK. That concern has kept his children away since 2022. Now, with his latest request for security under official review, the door appears to be opening.

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams believes Meghan’s presence would be key — not just personally, but publicly. “It does seem likely that Meghan will return to the UK,” he told The Express. “If Harry came alone, it would spark further rumors of a marital split. Also, she has to pave the way for her appearance at Invictus next year.”

In other words, showing up together sends a message. And bringing the children may soften it further. “I suspect that if they bring their children, the reception will be much softer, so I would bet that they do,” Fitzwilliams added. “It is a chance to push the cause of reconciliation in the lead-up to Invictus 2027 in Birmingham. There is little doubt they will get the security they want, and the King would obviously like to see his grandchildren.”

That last point is of importance. Charles has seen little of Archie and Lilibet in recent years, and speculation has grown that he may not travel to the US to visit them when he is there in April. And therefore, a summer reunion might be around the corner soon.

And behind the scenes, the momentum seems to be building up. On January 4, The Mail reported that the UK government is likely to reverse its earlier decision and grant the Sussexes official, taxpayer-funded, armed, full-time security during visits. One insider told the paper, “It’s now a formality. Sources at the Home Office have indicated that security is now nailed on for Harry.”

Another source underscored why the issue has been non-negotiable. “If you knew about the kind of threats Harry and his children have been getting, then you would understand why he doesn’t want to bring the kids over until police protection is granted,” the insider said. And for Harry, he has never hidden the fact about wanting his children to see and experience the UK.
