Prince Harry has always been a doting husband, never failing to champion his wife’s dreams and projects. From the moment Meghan Markle entered royal life, Harry made it clear that her independence and drive were among the things he admired most. Reflecting on their first meeting, he once told the BBC, “I never watched Suits, I never heard of Markle before. I was beautifully surprised when I walked into that room and saw her sitting there. I thought, ‘Okay, I really have to up my game here.’”

Now, as Markle returns to her Hollywood roots after eight years away, the question naturally arises: how does Harry really feel about his wife featuring on the silver screen? According to those close to the couple, Harry’s response is exactly what you’d expect from him. A friend says the Duke of Sussex “wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy,” describing his support as unwavering, the Mirror reported.

Markle’s return marks a full-circle moment. Before royal life, she was best known for her role in Suits and was steadily building a promising Hollywood career. She left it all behind in 2017, calling her decision 'the next chapter,' one defined by love and teaming up with her husband, Harry. During her engagement interview with the BBC, she famously said, “I don’t see it as giving anything up... I just see it as a change.”

The change was walking into one of the world’s most scrutinized families, and eventually, away from it. But now, Markle appears to be back on her own stage, quite literally. The Duchess is starring as herself in Close Personal Friends, an Amazon MGM Studios production currently being filmed in Pasadena. On set, she was reportedly radiant and 'super happy,' with sources suggesting that her return to acting feels like a natural extension of who she once was.

Still, her comeback hasn’t gone unnoticed — or uncriticized. Columnist Sarah Vine wrote in the Daily Mail that Markle’s renewed fame might stir complicated emotions for Harry. “Will it rankle to see his wife soaring to new heights of fame (and no doubt fortune) while he remains rather constrained in his options?” Vine asked, adding that Hollywood schedules and publicity could prove testing for the couple.

Vine, however, didn’t dismiss the move entirely. She called it 'a power play' and, notably, “the first thing she’s done since leaving royal life that feels truly her.” She added, “Let’s face it, no one really believes she makes her own jam, dries her own rose petals, or actually eats any of the sugary treats she shoves down viewers’ throats.”

While critics debate Markle’s motives, Harry appears unbothered. He’s continued to be publicly vocal about his pride in her work. Speaking to PEOPLE earlier this year, about Markle's business ventures, he said, “I am so happy for my wife and fully support absolutely everything she’s done and continues to do,” adding, “I’m incredibly proud.” He also made a brief appearance in her Netflix series, appearing in the final episode during a celebratory brunch for her business.
