Prince Harry Sued By Charity He Set Up in Princess Diana's Honor
The case filings did not reveal the details of the allegations made in the libel lawsuit.
Courtrooms will possibly soon become Prince Harry’s new hangout spot, as in a shocking move, the Duke of Sussex has been sued in a libel case by a charity he co-founded in honor of his late mother, Princess Diana. This new lawsuit against Harry has come just as he is awaiting a judgment in his infamous case against Associated Newspapers.
Harry had set up Sentebale, meaning ‘forget-me-not’ in the Sesotho language, in 2006 to carry forward Diana’s work in the fight against HIV and AIDS. The purpose of the non-profit organization is to support young people suffering from these deadly diseases in Lesotho and Botswana.
After a public fallout with the charity’s chair, Sophie Chandauka, he resigned as patron in March last year. According to a recent Newsweek report, Sentebale filed a defamation claim against him and his longtime friend and former trustee, Mark Dyer, at the London High Court last month. However, it is still unclear what the exact accusations are, as the filings did not reveal the details of the alleged defamatory statements.
However, this is not the first time that Chandauka has spoken out against Harry. She previously claimed that the Duke wanted to use the charity as a “PR machine” for his wife, Meghan Markle. But those allegations were perhaps only the tip of the iceberg of just how bad the situation was going to get.
Chandauka had also previously reported Harry and the trustees to Britain’s Charity Commission for alleged bullying and harassment. Following a review, the commission did not find any evidence of bullying. However, it did identify a weakness in governance and criticized both parties for escalating the internal conflict so much that it became public fodder for gossip.
The Duke of Sussex had previously described the fallout with Chandauka as devastating. Following what can now only be called a catastrophic dispute, Sentebale’s co-founder, Prince Seeiso of Lesotho, and the charity’s board of trustees had also resigned from the organization alongside Harry in 2025. So far, neither party has reacted to the news.
