Prince Harry Ditched One of His Strict Rules After Meeting Meghan Markle
In his memoir Spare, Harry revealed some of the 'firm rules' that he followed when it came to relationships.
Not long after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex got married, they turned their backs on their old lives and left behind royal privileges as well. Their relationship was also private for several months before going public, especially due to the sudden and intense criticism surrounding Meghan Markle's nationality and profession. But despite all the challenges, their romantic journey led to a grand royal wedding in 2018. It's also reported that Prince Harry, who was once known for sticking firmly to some of his personal rules, broke one of them when Meghan entered his life.
In his controversial memoir Spare, Harry revealed some of the 'firm rules' that he followed when it came to relationships. As reported by The Mirror, he wrote, "The main one was that you absolutely must date a woman for three years before taking the plunge." However, in real life, he started dating Meghan in 2016 and got married to her after just two years, on 19th May 2018. Mentioning the rule he broke, Harry stated, "But Meg seemed the shining exception to this rule. All rules. I knew her straightaway, and she knew me. The true me."
He added, "Might seem rash, I thought, might seem illogical, but it's true: For the first time, in fact, I felt myself to be living in truth." They are now proud parents to two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Previously, the Duke opened up about how their relationship began and said, "Meghan and I met over Instagram. I was scrolling through my feed, and someone who was a friend had a video of the two of them, like a Snapchat. With dog ears. That was the first thing. I was like, 'Who is that?'" After chatting for a while, the two went on a blind date in London, as reported by Harper's Bazaar.
As speculation around their relationship quickly spread across the country in the months that followed, Meghan faced massive backlash, which forced Kensington Palace to step in with an official social media statement, confirming their relationship. They stated, "Prince Harry is worried about Ms Markle's safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him, Ms Markle should be subjected to such a storm." Meanwhile, it's also worth noting that just two years after their grand royal wedding, the Duke of Sussex and Duchess of Sussex stepped away from their royal duties.
They have settled in California with their kids, but it now seems that despite years of distance from his family, Harry may still be open to reconnecting. A close friend of the Duke recently claimed that Harry would gladly accept an invitation to Sandringham Estate, where King Charles spends most of his summer with the Royal Family. Harry will soon be visiting the UK in July for an event related to the Invictus Games in Birmingham.
