Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s UK Move Isn’t Permanent Yet — but One Factor Could Change Everything

A recent UK trip may have made Harry and Meghan rethink their future, especially when it comes to raising their children.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s reported plans to return to the UK have come nothing less than a surprising move. However, if you are wondering what made the Sussexes consider moving to the very place they got to get away from, the answer might be even more surprising.

It turns out, their recent time in Britain may have had more of an impact than anyone expected. According to Hello!, their friends described it as a “really lovely trip” to see family and friends. Harry and Markle have decided to spend an “extended” period in the UK, although they are not calling it a permanent move.

That choice of words is telling, because it suggests the Sussexes are not ready to completely swap their American life for Britain just yet. Instead, they could be keeping a life on both sides of the Atlantic, giving them the kind of flexibility they had hoped for when they stepped back from royal duties in 2020.

And apparently, that family trip to Britain last month really helped push the idea forward. Friends of the couple said that the visit gave Harry an opportunity to do something he has wanted for years: let Archie and Lilibet spend more time in the country he has always considered home.

The source close to them said, “They had a wonderful time this summer and that was part of what went into the decision. They realised they wanted to take that opportunity to bring their kids home and share his family's history with them. They saw a lot of friends and family during their visit this summer.”

For Harry and Meghan, that seems to have made the timing feel right. They are said to be excited about giving Archie and Lilibet more time in a country that is so important to their family, particularly while the children are still young. However, how long that will last remains unclear. The couple is planning an extended stay, but there is no set date for their departure.

There is also a practical reason for the timing. Archie and Lilibet’s schooling means the family cannot leave the decision hanging indefinitely, so moving before classes begin could make the transition a little easier for the children.“Obviously, the longer you leave it, the harder that becomes because of their age. They feel the time is right now. They'll obviously want to get the kids settled,” Harry’s longtime friend revealed.
