Meghan Markle and Prince Harry featuring on Netflix isn't new, having recently signed a $100 million deal in August. To date, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been involved in five projects released under their Archewell Productions banner. While they have mostly appeared on their own shows, few expected them to get a shout-out on another of Netflix's hit shows. On Season 2 of Nobody Wants This, the royal couple received a surprise mention during a tense scene between on-screen sisters, Joanne and Morgan.

In the new season, Kristen Bell and Justine Lupe reprised their roles as Joanne and Morgan, respectively. In one of the episodes, Joanne questions her sister, "Am I supposed to believe everything you say? According to you, you could have been Meghan Markle." In response, Lupe retorts, "I said I saw Prince Harry at a bar and there was a vibe, okay? And there was a vibe!" The witty dialogue was intended to inject pop-culture humor and reflect Morgan's emotional state throughout the series. Lupe later described her character as 'in crisis' in the season, grappling with insecurity.

The onscreen sisters were referring to Markle and Harry’s first date in 2016, where their fairytale romance began. The pair met at 76 Dean Street, an exclusive members-only club in London's Soho district, on a blind date. During the couple’s Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, the Duchess recalled the magical evening, noting that the Duke was late. She jokingly remarked, "I couldn't understand why he would be late," adding that she thought, "Oh, is this what he does? Got it." Harry later revealed that he reminisced about the date to a friend, saying, "Wow. The most beautiful woman I've seen in my life."

Reflecting on her character's arc in the episode, Lupe told PEOPLE, "I think the whole season is Morgan not feeling very secure within herself and very comfortable on her own. And feeling like she's just kind of hanging on to flag poles along the way, being in the middle of a storm, just being like, 'Help me. Help me. Help me.'"

Markle and Harry’s shoutout on Nobody Wants This isn’t the first time the couple has been referenced on a popular show. While Netflix gave their relationship a positive nod, it was playfully mocked on The Real Housewives of London. In a trailer released on July 15, cast member Panthea Parker laid out her bold plan to confront King Charles about his rift with Harry and Markle. Her husband quickly interjected, jokingly reading from a pamphlet, "It says, specifically, 'Do not ask the monarch about Harry and Meghan.'" The cheeky dig came at a time when recent efforts toward reconciliation between Harry and Charles were underway.
