Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Return Could Pose Fresh Challenge For Prince William and Kate Middleton
Harry and Meghan’s return to the UK could stir things up for William and Kate, especially when it comes to their royal workload.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly making their way back to the UK, with plans already in motion for a swift return. However, their move could mean a lot of attention being put back on Prince William and Princess Kate, particularly surrounding their workload.
According to one expert, the homecoming could leave William and Kate dealing with an old family headache all over again. Christopher Andersen suggested that the couple may not be exactly thrilled to have Harry and Markle back in the U.K., saying to US Weekly, “All I can think of is: here we go again.”
The author continued, “For starters, I can only imagine that William and Kate are tearing their hair out. They have so much on their plate as it is trying to shore up the monarchy and propel it into the future; they don't really need to cope with having Harry and Megan on their proverbial doorstep.”
Andersen also added that the Sussexes’ presence could quickly become a major distraction for the rest of the royal family. He argued that the couple’s return would likely attract a flood of tabloid coverage, pulling attention away from other royals. “King Charles and Queen Camilla, in particular, don't like to be upstaged, and the same goes for William,” he said.
The news may have caught William and Kate off guard, too. According to Rob Shuter’s Naughty But Nice Substack, the Waleses had settled into the rhythm of the royal family’s new order since Harry and Markle stepped away. However, their return could change that dynamic by putting renewed attention on William and Kate’s workload. The issue of William being 'work-shy' is not exactly new, either. Over the years, his schedule has drawn comparisons with King Charles and Princess Anne, whose packed calendars have regularly placed them among the family’s busiest working members. Kate has faced similar comparisons regarding the number of public engagements she takes on.
Previously, Richard Fitzwilliams had also urged William to take on more engagements. He told Daily Mail, “It was totally understandable that he should have prioritized his family in the early years… Yet considering the magnitude of the job he one day will be asked to take on, with King Charles still battling cancer, it is surely important that he takes on more.”
With Harry and Markle’s apparent return to British soil happening within just a few days now, it will be interesting to see how it affects the future King and Queen.
