Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Could Escalate Tensions With Royal Family Amid Latest Row
Harry and Meghan’s reaction to fresh claims may be keeping royal tensions alive, with experts warning it could deepen the ongoing rift
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle did not hold back when a new book about them made a number of bombshell claims. However, a royal expert believes the response could make matters worse between the couple and the Royal family. Tom Bower, in excerpts from his upcoming book serialized by The Times, claims Queen Camilla once told a friend she felt Meghan had “brainwashed” Prince Harry. He also said that Meghan was seen as a pretty divisive figure, with Prince William and Kate reportedly viewing her as a “threat.”
"Mr. Bower’s commentary has long crossed the line from criticism into fixation,” a spokesperson of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in response to Bower’s claims. They added, “Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him.” However, what was meant as a defense could backfire, with a royal expert saying it may “stoke the fire” with their royal relatives.
Reported by Express, Ingrid Seward told New Magazine, “Harry doesn't believe in just allowing things to calm down—he is very protective of Meghan and obviously extremely annoyed and angry. The Royal Family probably do blame Meghan for everything that's happened, and she may have told him to do something.” She added that it only makes the story more juicy and keeps people talking, which does not really do them any favors.
In Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, Bower dives into Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s relationship with Prince William and Catherine. He claims that tensions had already started to build before they left the UK. The two couples were once close and even dubbed the “Fab Four” after Meghan joined the Royal Family, but things reportedly went downhill pretty quickly. The author wrote, “William’s dislike of Meghan had been obvious after his warning to Harry before their engagement. 'It's gone too quickly,' William had said about the speed of Harry’s relationship with 'the American actress.'"
The book also claims Meghan wanted to use the Invictus Games as a kind of global spotlight, with plenty of admiration and cheering crowds. “Meghan needed a global stage for genuine admiration and cheering fans. To her good fortune, Harry agreed that she could star at the Invictus Games, which he was about to open in Canada,” Bower wrote. He further suggests that the prince worries his brother, the future king, could strip the Sussexes of their titles and essentially shut him out of Britain.
A rep of the Sussex couple said in a lengthy statement, “This is someone who has publicly stated, 'The monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life,’ language that speaks for itself. He has made a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met.” His 2022 book, Revenge: Meghan, Harry, and the War Between the Windsors, covered similar ground.
