Podcast Hosts Reveal How King Charles Treated Them When The Cameras Were Off
Telivision hosts shares how a simple, unexpected moment with King Charles completely changed his impression
King Charles III might seem intimidating to most, but as it turns out, he is more humble than one can imagine. Television hosts Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly recently recalled their elaborate encounter with Charles on their podcast, Hanging Out With Ant & Dec (via The Express). They had interviewed him while the monarch still held the title of Prince of Wales.
Declan started to tell a memorable story about the time they were invited to interview King Charles at Highgrove House for the 25th anniversary of The Prince’s Trust (now the King’s Trust). He said the plan was simply to do the interview outside in the gardens. But when they arrived, things took a turn they did not expect. They were caught off guard in the best way as Charles ditched the plan and welcomed them indoors, making the whole experience feel far more personal than expected.
The 50-year-old celebrity shared, “We went to Highgrove House to meet him and interview him in the garden. And we were really super-duper nervous, and he was really relaxed and put us at our ease. He called us in first; he said, 'I want to meet you off camera first so we get to know each other a bit before the cameras start rolling.'"
Dec explained how it all felt surprisingly relaxed from the moment they stepped inside. He said they were led into a room where Charles came in, greeted them with a handshake, and sat down to chat. Soon after, a large tray was brought in, complete with a teapot, cups, and biscuits, and what was meant to be a formal interview quickly turned into an easy, almost cozy conversation.
However, the interviewer admitted that he found himself getting oddly distracted by the teapot sitting in front of them. He explained, “I'm sitting there going, 'Who's going to pour the tea? He's not going to do it. Do we do it?” Dec said the whole tea dilemma sorted itself out when a staff member quietly stepped in and handled the pouring, saving them from having to guess the etiquette. “And then we went out into the garden, interviewed him in the garden, and he was the loveliest, loveliest man,” he added.
Charles and Queen Camilla have been confirmed to be traveling to the U.S. for a royal visit by the end of April 2026. Donald Trump officially made the announcement on Truth Social and revealed the dates of the monarch’s visit to the White House and Capitol. He wrote, “Melania and I are pleased to announce that Their Majesties, the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, will visit the United States for a Historic State Visit from April 27-30th, which will include a beautiful Banquet Dinner at the White House on the evening of April 28th."
But this meeting will be far from ordinary, and royal experts have opined that Charles’ visit will be of utmost importance due to the ongoing tensions between Trump and the UK’s Prime Minister, Keir Starmer. Samara Gill spoke on the Sun Royal Exclusive, saying, “I mean, this will be his most important task to date as the King. I mean, we’ve got the world on a knife’s edge at the moment, sort of teetering on World War Three.”
