Buckingham Palace Shares Major Update on King Charles' Visit to the United States
King Charles, along with his wife Queen Camilla, will make a state visit to the U.S. in late April.
Over the last few days, there has been rising speculation about whether King Charles III will proceed with a planned state visit to the United States. With some reports suggesting the uncertainty over the timing of the visit due to political sensitivities, questions even rose about a possible cancellation. Despite this, the anticipation continued to build, fueling massive public and media interest. Now, Buckingham Palace has finally released an official statement confirming the details of Charles’s upcoming state visit to the US.
On Tuesday, the palace announced that Charles, along with Queen Camilla, will make a state visit to the U.S. in late April this year. As reported by The Mirror, the official statement also revealed further details of the visit, stating, "Their Majesties’ programme will celebrate the historic connections and the modern bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States, marking the 250th anniversary of American Independence. The King will then continue to Bermuda to undertake His Majesty’s first Royal Visit as Monarch to a British Overseas Territory."
Just a while before the official confirmation, President Trump largely criticized the UK and its other allies, who reportedly declined to take part in the ongoing military action against Iran. In his statement, Trump urged those nations to take matters into their own hands by securing access to oil through the Strait of Hormuz. However, he also posted a warm message claiming that he is looking forward to spending some quality time with Charles. In his Truth Social post, Trump wrote, “Melania and I are pleased to announce that Their Majesties, the King and Queen of the United Kingdom, will visit the United States for a Historic State Visit from April 27-30th, which will include a beautiful Banquet Dinner at the White House on the evening of April 28th."
Trump further went on to add, "This momentous occasion will be even more special this year, as we commemorate the 250th Anniversary of our Great Country. I look forward to spending time with the King, whom I greatly respect. It will be TERRIFIC!" It's worth noting that this will be Charles' first visit to the US after he took over the role of the monarch and also the first state visit by a British sovereign to America in almost 20 years. Before this, it was Queen Elizabeth who visited the country for a royal tour in 2007.
On the other hand, there have been several state visits to the UK by a US President since 1952. These visits came in 2003, 2011, 2019, and most recently in 2025. This was when Trump and the First Lady of the US were hosted by the King at Windsor Castle. They were a part of a lavish state dinner, which was also attended by Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton, as reported by CBS News. Meanwhile, the upcoming US state visit has sparked massive backlash, with a YouGov poll showing that nearly half of the voters are demanding the visit be called off.
