Mike Tindall Mocks Prince Harry With a Cheeky 'When He Was Fun' Quip
Mike Tindall took a dig at Prince Harry when talking about his 2011 wedding to Zara Tindall during a public appearance this week.
The Duke of Sussex has faced a lot of hate since he walked out on the royal family, and even those once close to him are targeting him. Mike Tindall was once close to his wife's cousin, Prince Harry, and even chose him to be the godfather to his and Zara Tindall’s second daughter. But their relationship might not be as tight-knit as it used to be, with the possible reason being Harry’s departure from the royal family in 2020. The former England rugby player recently took a dig at the young Prince during an appearance at the Hay Literary Festival in Powys, Wales.
Tindall runs a podcast called "The Good, The Bad and The Rugby," with James Haskell and Alex Payne, who had joined him at the literary festival. The 47-year-old reflected on his 2011 wedding to Zara and joked that he was surprised Haskell didn’t make a fool of himself at the nuptials. The Duke of Sussex, who is often left out of royal lingo these days, received an amusing mention when Tindall said, “A lot of other people managed that way better than you – (like) Harry, when he was fun,” according to Hello!.
The “fun” comment was likely a hint towards Harry’s ‘party prince’ reputation that he carried back in 2011. But the rebellious royal was set to undergo a massive transformation in the coming years. In 2016, he met Meghan Markle and the pair tied the knot in a dreamy ceremony at St. George’s Chapel two years later. Now, Harry resides in Montecito with his wife and two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
While Tindall and Harry might have grown apart in recent years, this was not the first time that the former has mentioned him since 2020. During an appearance on "I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here" in 2022, Tindall spoke about not feeling pressured after learning Zara was a royal, since he had previously met Prince William and Harry. “We were friends first, and then William and Harry were massive England fans at the time, so we'd met them numerous times. Met more of the family than you'd normally meet of the woman you start dating,” he said.
The Duke of Sussex was not the only target of Tindall’s light-hearted comments this week. When Payne mentioned that Tindall had his own bedroom in Buckingham Palace, the latter replied, “Opposite end to Andrew (Mountbatten-Windsor) though.” The sports icon also poked fun at himself while talking about his broken nose and subsequent corrective rhinoplasty in 2018. “Taxpayers' money fixed it. It's got the royal warrant if you look inside it,” he joked.
While the rugby trio created a lot of funny havoc at the literary festival, it was not only jokes that they cracked. They also revealed some special news about a pilot for a new TV series in which they try to run Richmond Rugby Club.
