While the entire royal family celebrated Christmas together in Sandringham, Prince Harry and his darling wife, Meghan Markle, were miles away from them. For the past several years, the Sussexes have been away from the royals and focusing on their own small family. They officially resigned from royal duties in 2020, and ever since, have maintained their distance from the royals. While there are speculations of Harry considering reconciliation with his family, especially given his father's deteriorating health, nothing as of now is official.

Markle is focused on her career in the West and has no interest in returning to the United Kingdom. She recently shared with fans how she celebrated Christmas with her husband and children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, far away from the royals, through her lifestyle brand, As Ever. In an email newsletter to her well-wishers, the actress revealed that Christmas this year was centered around her children, as the family indulged in delicious food and spent quality time together.

This year, the couple ate dim sum on Christmas Eve and skipped any traditional meal. "Last night, I was nibbling the remnants of our Christmas Eve feast (dim sum this year), wrapping a few last minute gifts, and tip toe-ing down the stairs with my husband to make sure 'Santa' had enjoyed his cookies and 'the reindeer' had eaten their carrots anything to maintain the morning magic of Christmas through our children's eyes," wrote Markle on her newsletter. Apart from this, she also shared her plans for celebrating Christmas Day with her kids.

"I plan to spend today cuddled up with my family, maybe in pajamas all day, some Scrabble or Sequence (or Candyland for the kids), music playing, candles flickering, dogs snoring, endless grazing; the laughter, the sidebars, the deep breaths (you know the ones), the fun, and the memories," detailed the Suits actress. The Duchess concluded the email wishing everyone on Christmas. "From my family to yours - Happy Holidays!" she added.

The Sussex couple last celebrated Christmas with the royal family back in 2018. It has been seven years since they celebrated the occasion as a family, and their kids never really got to experience the holiday in their father's home country. During a segment in With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, Markle shared that she adapted several Christmas traditions from Britain, since her days living with them, like making Christmas crackers for her family, among many others.

Prince Harry also ensures that his kids get to enjoy a few of the royal Christmas traditions. In his 2023 memoir, Spare, he shared, “We watched Archie running around the tree. And we opened presents. Keeping to the Windsor family tradition." He further detailed that on Christmas Eve, they as a family call their friends and family who reside back in Britain. “It was Christmas Eve. We FaceTimed with several friends, including a few in Britain," he detailed.
