Meghan Markle’s UK Return Faces Fresh Challenge as Bullying Claims Resurface — Now Over Housekeepers

A staffing headache at Meghan and Harry’s California home could add an unexpected obstacle to their reported UK return.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry moved to their Montecito home in California back in 2020, and they have been living there ever since. However, recent reports suggest that they might be moving back to the UK soon along with their two children. But Markle seems to be facing one problem which might make the move somewhat tricky.

According to Page Six, that problem reportedly has to do with staffing the family’s Montecito mansion, as Markle has allegedly struggled to find housekeepers before their planned move back to the UK. A source told the outlet, “She had trouble hiring maids because a lot of the housekeepers in Montecito didn’t want to work for them.”

The insider also revealed that Markle would personally interview prospective housekeepers but could reportedly come across as “snobbish and rude.” They said, “Meghan would interview people herself and could come across as really snobbish and rude. Some of them were so offended by the way she spoke to them that word started getting around.”

Moreover, the claims apparently became well known among Montecito’s domestic workers. The insider said the Duchess’ reputation even turned into a joke among people in the area. “It got to the point where people would joke that all the maids in Montecito hated them,” they added.

The reported housekeeper issue comes amid a history of staff changes surrounding the Sussexes. Their wider team saw several departures in 2025, including Los Angeles-based deputy press secretary Kyle Boulia and UK press officer Charlie Gipson, who both left after Markle and Harry brought in new advisers. Two members of their private staff were also reported to have moved on around the same period.

The Suits actress has also faced scrutiny over staff relations before. While she was still a working royal, palace aides accused her of bullying, prompting Buckingham Palace to investigate the allegations. The results were never publicly released, and Markle has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

The couple is set to move back to the UK for an extended period along with their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The Sussex children have reportedly been enrolled in a British school and their classes will be starting from September.
