Meghan Markle’s Former Hollywood Agent Gives Blunt Verdict on Her Career
Markle has been laying low after her significant return, only occasionally appearing on her best friend's social posts and at a local pub.
Rumors of Meghan Markle joining the cast of the hit British action-comedy series, The Gentlemen, for its third season were rife prior to her unexpected return to the UK. However, momentum around her potential acting comeback quickly stalled after it was reported that the former Suits actress had misunderstood the preliminary discussion phase for a formal role, sparking significant public backlash in the UK. Although the Duchess had previously signed with the Beverly Hills-based talent agency WME, she has since parted ways with the powerhouse Hollywood firm, whose leadership recently shared blunt remarks regarding her career trajectory.
According to the Sunday Times, the Duchess has not worked with Hollywood's super-agent Ari Emanuel since the pair parted ways last year. While promoting his latest memoir, Roll the Calls Eamnuel confirmed this when he was asked where he thinks Markle's career is heading, offering a curt reply: "Here's the great thing: I don't have to think about that anymore."
The Duchess had signed with the William Morris Endeavor (WME) group in April 2023 to promote her content production and brand partnerships. Interestingly, Emanuel's book was co-written by J.R. Moehringer, the acclaimed writer behind Prince Harry's memoir Spare, published in January 2023. Moehringer is one of the respected figures in the entertainment industry, having founded the Endeavor talent agency in 1995, which merged with WME in 2009. Meanwhile, PR expert Mark Borkowski commented that the couple's return to the UK highlights their lack of success in the US.
"It is a wounded brand. Leaving the US suggests Meghan has no power. No one is buying it any longer. The Meghan tragedy is that she has enjoyed unlimited access to amplification and, in reality, a steadily diminishing supply of affection. The Harry and Meghan brand isn't dead, but it has begun to resemble a glittering palace chandelier hanging by one screw: glamorous, expensive, and increasingly unwise to stand underneath," Borkowski told the Daily Mail.
Eric Schiffer, chairman of Reputation Management Consultants, echoed similar sentiments, stating that Markle's departure from the US has diminished her prospects for achieving A-list status in Hollywood. He described the Sussexes' situation as detrimental to their stardom, suggesting they may only secure B-list roles amid widespread public indifference. Schiffer emphasized that their true fulfillment lies in philanthropy, hinting that they might find greater purpose by returning to charitable endeavors.
Markle has been keeping a low profile since her return, appearing only occasionally in social media posts shared by her close friend and during low-key visits to a local pub. The Duchess has not made any official public appearances or announced any new projects. However, if rumors are to be believed, she has been hunting for a luxurious new property equipped with its own film studio.
