Meghan Markle's Close Friend Defends Her Most Mocked Netflix Moment
A guest star on 'With Love, Meghan' has made his opinions clear on Meghan Markle's Netflix series during a recent interview.
When Meghan Markle launched her Netflix reality show, ‘With Love, Meghan’, she inadvertently created moments that might not have left a good taste. Be it her fascination with her beloved flower sprinkles or tips that might have felt slightly out of touch, but the one question that has seemingly followed the Duchess of Sussex after years is, why did she pour pretzels from one bag into another? There could have been many reasons behind the move, from convenience to aesthetics, but now Markle’s friend and guest star, Tan France, has finally given his take on the matter.
During an appearance on Vanessa on Wednesday, the fashion designer spoke about his experience of shooting an episode for ‘With Love, Meghan’. Host Vanessa Feltz mentioned the “tumultuous criticism” Markle has been facing since the show was released and also brought up the notorious pretzel drama. Although the issue had happened in the first episode of the first season and France had appeared in the second season, he still had a practical response to the line of questioning, which might not sit well with his British fans.
“Being from the UK, but living in the US, I think I understand both equally well. It was never going to be for the Brits. The Brits are too cynical, they don't care about the whimsy, they're too busy getting on with real life,” he said via HELLO!, before adding, “Life's hard in England, they haven't got time to make a charcuterie board pretty. There's no reason.”
The episode starring France was certainly one of the most wholesome from the second season. Like most episodes of the series, this one also included a cross-section of cookery and art. Drawing from France’s love for fashion, Markle arranged for the two of them to decorate aprons for their kids, and in return, the fashion expert taught the hostess his husband’s French toast recipe, which is a staple in their home. However, the most adorable moment from the entire episode came when Markle gifted him a masala dabba (spice box) that she had found in a flea market some years ago. France was visibly excited at the gift.
Apart from being a prolific fashion designer, France has appeared on shows like Queer Eye. During his recent interview, he was asked if he would give any style advice to the Duchess, to which he said, “Do you know what? She dresses wicked. She doesn't need my advice. She's a really chic dresser. I like the way she dresses a lot.” Markle seemingly draws inspiration from minimalist fashion icons like Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and has recently been seen in a lot of neutral colors. “I won't give advice unless somebody asks, but even if she asks, there's nothing I could say. She usually looks fab,” France further added. Although the first season of Markle’s Netflix show captured attention, views and headlines, it couldn’t keep up the same way. After two seasons and one holiday special, the series was unfortunately cancelled.
