Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have long championed philanthropy, a value deeply rooted in their upbringings. Markle has committed to raising her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, to give back to society — a trait that would make their late grandmother, Princess Diana, proud. Diana’s enduring legacy of charity continues to profoundly shape both her sons and their families.

Markle has been vocal about raising her children to champion against one social issue, which was very dear to the late Diana’s heart. During her interview with The Cut, Markle took journalist Allison P. Davis to pick up Archie from school, which she later documented in an article. Allison penned, “At a stoplight, she [Meghan] reaches into the trunk and produces a brand-new black backpack and hands it to her security detail to give to an unhoused man on the corner.” She added, “They are teaching Archie that some people live in big houses, some in small, and that some are in between homes. They made kits to pass out with water and peanut-butter crackers, and granola bars.”

The Duchess of Sussex also shared in an interview with People Magazine how important she feels it is to teach her children to look after those less fortunate. She revealed that the belief to give back to society stems from her childhood. She said, “Buying turkeys for homeless shelters at Thanksgiving, delivering meals to patients in hospice care, donating any spare change in their pocket to those asking for it, and performing quiet acts of grace – be it a hug, a smile, or a pat on the back to show ones in need that they would be alright.”

For her part, the ‘People’s Princess’ championed a wide range of charitable causes during her life. As reported by Time Magazine, Diana was the patron of Centrepoint, a charity supporting homeless young people in the UK. She took her young sons, Prince William and Harry, to visit Centrepoint hostels and help the less fortunate. In January 2017, Harry echoed his mother’s legacy by running with members of The Running Charity, a program for homeless and vulnerable people. He and Markle are also the founders of the Archewell Foundation, which supports various charitable organizations.

As per Hello! magazine, Markle is also known to often wear a necklace engraved with the letters 'A' and 'L', the initials of her kids. However, what made her necklace special is that the gold pendant from The Gold Album was crafted in collaboration with the CHLA Heart Ambassador. 15% of all sales directly support the charity’s mission to heal children’s hearts by providing treatment in a child-friendly environment. We wouldn't be surprised to see one of her children wearing the special necklace in the future!
