Meghan Distanced From King Charles on Purpose — and Prince Harry Is the Reason, Says Royal Expert
At present, it remains unclear whether the Duchess of Sussex will be a part of a potential royal family reunion.
Ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from royal duties in 2020, several critics and royal commentators have held Markle responsible for the rift within the family. However, Harry himself has repeatedly suggested that his frustrations with royal life, media intrusion, and family tensions began long before he even met his wife. In recent news, this has once again been confirmed by a royal expert, who claims that with signs of a possible UK trip this summer, an anticipated reunion could challenge the long-held assumptions and reshape the public narrative. Adding another layer to this is the expert's assertion that Markle intentionally pulled back from King Charles, with Harry's longstanding tensions with the family cited as the driving force.
As reported by Page Six, royal commentator Amanda Matta said, “Meghan’s presence would certainly add symbolic weight to any reunion. If Meghan accompanies Harry to the UK or to a meeting with his family, it would signal to the public that any effort at rebuilding relationships extends to the Sussex family as a whole.” She also suggested that the Duchess’s attendance at the family gathering would likely have little impact on the chances of a reconciliation, neither helping nor hindering the efforts.
Matta said, “It just changes the stakes. The challenge in reconciling has never really been about any one person; it has been rebuilding trust across the board.” She went on to claim that Markle’s connection with King Charles has long followed a different path when compared to that of Harry’s. The expert said, “Historically, there have been indications that Charles made efforts to welcome her into the family, but she has taken a step back in recent years. I see that as an acknowledgment that the Sussexes’ ongoing tensions with the royals actually stem from Harry and his own family.”
She continued, “The issues he has raised, of press intrusion and an emotionally stifling palace environment, existed and were eating away at Harry before he even met Meghan.” Furthermore, Matta stated, “The public generally understands that this relationship (the one between the royal family and the couple) is incredibly complicated, but they also know more than ever about the way the monarchy operates. The greatest risk, in my opinion, comes from how the palace manages this ‘return.'”
Although it remains unclear whether the Duchess will attend the reported family meeting, reports suggest that she and Harry plan to bring their children, Archie and Lilibet, to the UK. If this turns out to be true, it would be the kids’ first trip to the country since 2022. What's even more interesting is that the young royals are also expected to spend time with their grandfather during their stay. Meanwhile, the monarch is said to have invited the Sussexes to stay at a royal property during their visit and offered to help oversee their security arrangements, a move that could be seen as an effort to ease tensions.
