King Charles and Queen Camilla will welcome US President Donald Trump and the First Lady, Melania, for their official state visit in September. With French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife’s recent state visit, the royal family gave a glimpse of the grandeur that is to be expected. However, while Macron addressed the UK parliament during his visit, Trump may not get a chance to do so during his.

The official social media handles of the royal family have confirmed the dates of Trump’s visit. It read, “The President of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump, accompanied by the First Lady Mrs. Melania Trump, has accepted an invitation from His Majesty The King to pay a State Visit to the United Kingdom from 17 September to 19 September 2025.” The announcement caught the attention of royal watchers as they noted that the dates coincided with the traditional recess of the House of Commons for their official party conferences.

According to the New York Post, Trump will hence not be able to address the UK parliament. The Palace has yet to address the reasoning behind the particular dates. However, as per reports, several Members of Parliament recently urged the House of Commons speaker not to let Trump be given the honor. Earlier this month, 15 Labor MPs and five others signed a motion to deny Trump from addressing the parliament, given his penchant for stirring controversy and his unpopularity in the UK, which would reflect badly on the King.

Trump, however, is reportedly keen to visit the UK. According to the Times of London, British ambassador Peter Mandelson noted, “He [Trump] should expect a warm reception because he really does love Britain. He hugely admires it.” The ambassador continued, “He trusts Keir Starmer. It’s not a question of expressing our gratitude. My lodestar here is to demonstrate respect, not sycophancy. I don’t think the administration has any problem with that.”

Trump was presented with the royal invitation by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer in February. Quickly accepting the invitation, he responded, “On behalf of our wonderful First Lady, Melania, and myself, the answer is yes, and we look forward to being there and honoring the King and honoring, really, your country.” The POTUS added, “Your country is a fantastic country, and it’ll be our honor to be there.” Trump has often expressed his fondness for the King and is allegedly elated about the visit.

The royal family will host Trump at Windsor Castle, due to the ongoing refurbishments at Buckingham Palace. Similar to the Macrons, the Trumps are also expected to stay at the castle and engage in various activities hosted by the royal family. Since they will be welcomed in Windsor, Prince William and Kate Middleton are also expected to play a crucial role in hosting the guests.
